I got into photography about 35 years ago as a way to create reference material for my paintings. I've been painting since the age of 7. I bought a used canon camera with two lenses and have been hooked ever since. I still paint but photography is now my passion. I compose a picture in my lens as I would a painting. The composition starts in my head and then I figure out how to get that image in the camera. It all starts with the light, once I figure out what kind of light I have to work with, it all seems to fall into place. I love all types of photography, landscapes, portrait, still life and macro. I love focusing on a subject in the light then turning out the lights and painting it with a flashlight. Once I've capture a shot, I turn 360 degrees and usually see a dozen pictures I should have seen but was so focused on the image in my head, I might have missed. Last year I challenged myself to post a picture a day on facebook. It was a wonderful challenge and I enjoyed every day. I invite you to check them out. (facebook, jim butterly sr)
