For me, photography is a passion verging on an obsession. It all started with the ghostly images that appeared in the developing tray in my school darkroom; then, as I acquired more sophisticated cameras I gradually taught myself the basics, largely by trial and error. I came to digital rather late, but still occasionally step back into the analogue world, just for old times’ sake. Now retired, I have a little more time to photograph just about anyone or anything in front of my lens, but ― like most other photographers ― I find my best pictures are the ones I never took because I arrived too late, left too early, didn’t have my camera with me or ran out of film. Never mind, though: tomorrow, next week or next year perhaps I’ll have a chance to take the picture of a lifetime.
