Strictly an amateur photographer, but damn I love it. Photography seems complementary to my vocation as a (retired) journalist and author. It is the function of both disciplines to notice, understand, find patterns and communicate. Photographers do it with light instead of words, but both treasure the boundless panorama of the world and try to enhance it by focusing our attention, individually and collectively.
