This just feels like an historic glimpse into the past of a cycling age devoid of the modern busy lifestyle. The final processing and toning really helps and despite the number of characters you are drawn to the central figure before exploring the scene. Care has been taken to wear pocket watches and not wrist ones as well. The only minor fault is the modern glasses on two of the characters but it took me a while to notice and I love this shot.
I really like this composite and it literally came with a story to tell. I love the rain and atmosphere from its brand of film drama. The only niggle I had was the rain on the windscreen is wonderfully sharp which works well on the character that is in soft focus behind the wheel creating the depth. However the pursuing car is sharper on its front grill. Once spotted it bugged me enough to drop it from my top ten but a fabulous and well thought out idea nonetheless that I could not achieve.
This is a great composite, throwing all the elements in to show a battle in progress. The low angle and moving tank with smoking gun would have been great on its own but the additional soldiers and planes make it very special. An Image that tells several stories and gives a feeling of the second world war. It takes vision and skill to create such an image. Congratulations!
This studio portrait is a fabulous creation. Historically dramatic rather than a documentary yet fits the brief well and has been executed with great skill. The processing is fabulous. I like to think that she is signalling someone outside as holding a lantern to the window like that would not help you to see out. I would have liked to see it slightly larger as it is quite small on my high definition monitor but nonetheless I really like it. Congratulations!
I am not a fan of children pictures, which can only be a tribute to the quality and atmosphere of this great shot. Given the history of child evacuees in the second world war, from London to safer homes in the country away from their parents, I can only imagine this as the only photo a parent would have of their last moment together for a long time at the very least. The feeling of history it gives made this the winner for me. Congratulations!
I asked for a movie drama feel and this delivered. A fabulous multi portrait that just pops out at you. The use of an f/4 aperture is perfect to throw out the supporting cast behind this dark personality of the leading character. A great use of the canal warehouse bays at the museum combined with great processing. I could easily see this as an advertising still shot for a drama series. Congratulations!

This is a wide subject that can be open to interpretation ranging from objects and portraits to interior or exterior settings. I will be looking for images that bring historical subjects alive using lighting, atmosphere and composition. Historically the subject should give a feeling of anything before 1980 though it does not have to be made to look like a period photograph, so also think of a movie style historical drama feel. Colour, black and white, or toned photos are all acceptable. Avoid photos of just decay and ruins that offer nothing else to the viewer.
