A Moment in Time

In the end this image won me over on two things. The timing, and the shapes. The timing of getting the gull just after it touches the water and looking in just the right direction, and with it's wings in just the right place is breathtaking. And then the shapes created because of all this are equally breathtaking. That beautiful arc of water and spread and curve of the wings. A little element a really love it the reflections the water causes on the underside of the wings. It really elevates it all. The simple background then just makes the whole scene pop. Fantastic work, congratulations.

I think the timing, angle and composition of this picture are amazing. The shape of the bird being really symmetrical and graphic. It becomes a bit abstract; and is this beautiful pure form or some sort of angel. I can see why you centred the image on the bird and straightened it a little so the bird is level. I actually think it would be a little nicer if we saw a bit more of the lovely reflection so putting the bird a little higher in frame. And levelling it to the water and having the reflection perfectly straight a bit more satisfying. However these are minor details as overall this is a great shot. Well done.

I just love the energy in this shot. Each person is so engrossed in the game and it's a joy to look through all the faces and feel the moment. I like the way the focus shows us just enough to see the faces and expressions of the crowed but soft enough to really make the main subjects pop. I even like the really soft element in the bottom left side that draws the eye in back to the main protagonists. Even the slight angle helps bring an energy that makes the viewer feel like part of the action. A lovely image well done.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked 1000+ in this week’s Leaderboard.** Whilst photography’s very essence is the capturing of a moment, not all moments are maybe considered to be equal. When that moment is carefully chosen, hints (or shouts) about what went before and what will go after, and is packed with story, meaning, and interest, it warrants and can keep our attention. Choose your images carefully for this contest - the moment captured should be evident to the viewer, and a testament to the timing (and sometimes luck) of the photographer.
