Bright colours are not something I would have thought would suit the theme of abandonment particularly well, however here the bright greens against the darker, more "moody" sky really work together, complimenting the eyes in the same way that sweet and sour dishes compliment the tongue.
The forethought you've shown in selecting the right time of day and the right angle combine to elongate the boat in a way that make it seem gargantuan, and create a sense of mystery, causing the viewer to question the story behind the subject, which is exactly what a good photo should do. Well done!
Whilst the location and content of the picture definitely give off the desired sense of abandonment, the heavy editing and position of the chair distract the viewer and leaves them uncertain as to the main subject. Centralising the chair would have served to pull the attention towards it and also to balance the photo.
Currently, the editing is too soft and smoothes the edges and the detail, whereas starker, sharper and more dramatic lines and details would have fit the brief more closely.
This photo is particularly strong because of your skill and control in a low light setting, which can be difficult to shoot in. The editing of the two spotlights in particular is very successful as these could have been very bright and demanded the viewer's attention.
The location is unique and matches the brief brilliantly, and the "fish eye" style of the photograph emphasises the length of the tunnel and draws the eyes toward the gate, which makes a great subject given its mystery; it leaves us yearning for more.
Firstly, congratulations on your image placing 4th out of more than 1,100 submissions. It can often be very difficult to capture a famous landmark or well-known subject in a unique way, however your photograph perfectly fits the brief and stands out amongst the numerous similar photos that were sent in.
The colour scheme, which matches the mood of the theme so well, is doubly as effective due to the merging of the sea and sky and the sense of infinity and endless continuity.
My eyes were immediately drawn to the sky in this photograph, which isn't always a negative quality, however the heavy editing in this case detracts from the subject, the church, and therefore the theme of abandonment.
The positioning of the church is also something which could have been improved by following more closely the "rule of third". The grayscale colour scheme works well with the subject and helps it to stand out against the solid colours of the environment, but a more natural, solid sky would have accentuated the church even further.
While this a great imagine in terms of subject and the history of the location definitely screams "abandonment", the composition of the photograph doesn't accentuate what potential the location intrinsically has. To heighten the sense of loneliness and loss, the picture would have benefitted from more forethought around the time of day, by perhaps shooting later in the day or early evening, the weather and season, and also a heavier use of editing to darken the overall photo and mood.
Firstly, wow! The colours in this photograph are vivid and rich, however they don't distract from the derelict ship, which clearly meets the objective of the theme. The editing is excellent, and whilst the detail is sharp and focussed, the colours merge together very smoothly, almost like a painting.
The subject is well-centred in the image, it is the focus point for the viewer, and the beautiful location and time of day, which obviously required forethought and preparation, really help to make this photo stand out amongst the 1,100 or so other submissions, a large number of which were images of ships.
This image shows a great amount of potential and highlights your good eye for location and composition, however I feel that it could have been improved by removing the doll, which serves to distract from the depth of field. I can appreciate that you wanted to use the doll to fulfil the theme of abandonment, however in actual fact the location, the colour scheme and the angle of the photo alone would have been more than enough to fill the brief.
What initially caught my eye about this image was the cinematographic effect, and the sense I get that I'm watching a major motion picture. There's something very mystifying about the boat that makes me question its history and leaves no doubt in my mind that it had an interesting, if not thrilling, past.
You clearly have a great eye for composition and the individual elements of the photo, the fog, the ice, the colour of the sky and stark contrast of the boat's rust, combine to perfectly fulfil the brief of "abandonment".
The dramatic sky, which dominates the image, serves as a powerful back-drop for the subject and sets the tone of the whole photo. The use of colour, instead of using only black and white, accentuates the effect of the darker colours of the ruins; using monochrome would have been less impactful as the ground and sky would have merged and the contrast would have been lost. Unfortunately there is little editing and the photo would have benefitted from sharper and clearer detailing to make the contrasts even more apparent.
The large signature is very distracting and detrimental to the image on the whole.
The location of the shoot is fantastic, but what really caught my eye was your skilled editing; the sharp and vivd edges and details make this a really strong image. The colour scheme accentuates the mood and the continued use of darker green colours on the left-hand side serve to split the photo almost to give a sense of nature taking over the building.
However, I feel that the chair is too close to the camera as to be distracting and it stops the viewer exploring the more interesting details of the derelict building.

When I think of abandonment, I think of loneliness and endlessness, which are the feelings this strong image portrays in excess. The positioning of the main subject is perfectly centred and leaves no doubt that it is the focus point and is central to the theme, and the small section of greenery to the right helps to combine the two contrasting elements of the image, the natural and the man-made, and serves to make the left-hand side of the image even more stark and empty in comparison.
