This fantastic kaleidoscopic image is a composite created from images of a vintage typewriter. We love the sense of depth created by the diminishing keys and the warm, retro tones. This isn’t just a great image but a clever concept.

This abstract architectural image has an eerie and atmospheric quality due to the small lone figure. The end of the tunnel has created a frame within a frame that draws the viewer towards the figure, before the eye wanders across the many blurred streaks, presumably created via a multiple exposure. A great image!

The metallic orbs and strands look like something from a science-fiction movie, but they were created using only hot glue and water. Hot glue was stretched across a glass to create the stands and the multi-coloured gradient was created by positioning an LED light underneath the glass. A fantastic image!

This kiwi slice has made for an eye-catching abstract photograph. A macro lens was used to achieve the frame-filling close-up and the square 1:1 crop has ensured the fruit’s explosive centre dominates the composition. A fantastic and vibrant abstract image!

We love the whooshing sense of speed created by the slow, four-second shutter speed, fast movement of the train and smooth curvature of the motion blur. The high-key lighting and vibrant colours create a futuristic aesthetic. A fantastic abstract image!

The Selfridges Building in Birmingham, UK, is a popular architectural subject. Its modern aesthetic lends itself well to abstract architectural photography and this image is a beautiful example. The monochrome conversion was a great idea, removing the distraction of any blue sky, allowing the viewer to focus on the building's striking form.

From the seamless editing to the complementary blue and orange palette, there’s a lot to like about this repeating pattern image. The tilting frame was held up by an assistant, whose hand and arm were cloned out in post. A great edit!

This unique image of the Caucasus Mountains was captured from an airliner and looks like a cool computer render from the 80s. The blue edges accentuate the flowing patterns and the white highlights and grey shadows add texture. A great shot!

This image was inspired by Bill Wadman’s portraits of dancer’s in motion and we think it’s achieved an eerie painterly quality all of its own. The three-second shutter speed has created sweeping streaks of motion blur, while just about retaining a hint of the human form.

This photo is proof that wildlife images can make beautiful abstracts. Intentional camera movement (ICM) was used to create the painterly motion blur. We like the slightly overexposed nature of the image because it has produced soft, delicate tones like a watercolour painting.

As busy and loud as this vibrant image of glassware is, it’s also beautifully sharp and clean. The eye is immediately drawn to the explosion of colour, and the lighting has shrouded the edges of the glasses in shadow, which pulls them from the background.

There can be a fine line between a random collection of textures and shapes and a cleverly conceived abstract image, and we think this example falls firmly in the latter. Two images of water have been blended together to create the paper-like texture and the gorgeous warm palette was achieved in post. The dark streaks connote some form of skyline against that beautiful backdrop of sunset colours.
