This is striking and technically well executed. Normally I'm not a fan of mirrored shots in photoshop, normally it's pointless or like a bit of a cheat, an easy way out. But this one works. Why ? I think becuase I want to look further, deeper, I want to see what it is. Compositionally it's very powerful, symmetry always is but this stands out from the rest, mainly because of the subject matter which is different, not the usual ceiling. And the isolated red colur - lovely
Normally I don't like images that are over photoshopped for the sake of it. But this image really works and also really fits this brief. It reminds me of communist propaganda imagery, slightly crude cut outs and a leaning dominating almost, perspective. The choice of colours works, who knew a yellow sky would work ! A really fresh image, thanks for entering it
As usual, it's very difficult to pick out a winner and interesting to note that this is rated 153 in the public poll ! Which goes to show how subjective photography is. For me this one stands out, powerful and graphic while still retaining detail. The lamp post makes it- brilliant ! Without it this would be a dull shot and like all the other millions of photos out there that look straight up at tall buildings. Compared to other entries, this shot has character, and originality. The black and white treatment works well, I imagine this shot not working so well as a colour version, in black and white it's all about shape and lines. A nice take on a standard view

However if you're not a paying subscriber you can still purchase entries for £2 (GBP) per image.*** Architecture is never really seen as a whole entity. It's seen from angles and – interior and exterior – that each have their own function and atmosphere. Abstract architecture photography takes these smaller elements, separated from the context of the building, and creates an abstract scene out of the shapes and textures that are there. The effect can be surprising, creative and artistic.
This stood out for me. Really lovely light and composition and the stripes of light. There's a lot going on in one picture - isolated colour, shadow, converging lines and textural differences (which is important for architectural work). Essentiallyit's a shot of a pavement and the bottom bit of a building - I wonder if you had to retouch chewing gum and oil stains and cigarette ends out ?! The shot is brave compositionally and nicely observed - well done
Who knew street photography could alos be abstract architecture. While most of the other shots are about glamour in architecture, this one is using the banality of the built environment to frame the person. If it were me I'd crop it a bit tighther to lost the bits of cars at the top, and the pair of legs. I love the arrow the guy is walking into and the fact the arrows on the road stand out, they add interest, intrigue. Nicely done
I like this shot, it's sooo New York and the misty flat light flattens the perspective but the buildings do look 3-d, like layers. I didn't select it for a commendation because strictly speaking, it's not on brief. Abstract means patterns, yes this shot has patterns and they're architectural but it's an architectural shot or a street scene. Enter it into another competition where it really meets the brief, I'm sure you'll get some success. Good luck
