Great contest!

Having been in Africa myself many many times I know how difficult it is to have a shot like this. Hippos normally don't splash up a lot of water while just yawning and in this light it's really difficult to have good and well focused shot as well.

Love the light, the colours, the eye (he looks almost kind of crazy!) and all the water movement!

I really love this image! It's almost as if the elephant seal slides into the photo from the left, trying to chase the penguins so they won't steal the show. ;-)

The colours, contrast and the fact that everything happens just below the horizon were what caught my eye as well. Wonderful and special photo!

From the many pictures of diving king fishers in this contest I chose this one to get a review as well. It's really the perfect moment, the perfect splashing and the perfect pose of the bird! I also like the colours and the light in this one.

Unfortunately there could be only ten photos in the top 10, but this one is surely number 11!

Wow! This image requires skills! I love the way the wings move while at the same time the face is in focus ánd very focussed. The background with the beautiful bokeh makes this picture even better. I think it's a great shot!

This one deserved a review as well. :-) Or: how a very simple image of something really small can be very powerful!

The grey colours in contrast with the white and orange on this little chick, the glistening in the sand and the shade underneath it: I all love it.

I love the soft colours, soft edit, soft light, and a very soft and fluffy animal. I really like the composition and the reflection. It gives the image the impression of a lot of peace and quiet.

Just a perfect one!

This picture is really one of my favourites. Although not much is happening, it makes me curious. Why is the bear standing on its hind legs, what is he or she looking at?

The dark background, the light on the face and the very soft editing make this image like in a fairy tale. Almost as if the bear isn't real! Love it!

I think this is such a stunning picture! I love the moment, the colours, the contrast and the focus! Although not much of the environment is seen, we still know where we are.

It's raw and it's captured at the exact right moment!

To me this is a winning photo. The light, the colours but especially the moment: they are all spot on. If you look at the image you can almost hear the noises and screams that come with it. And you also now it's a split second only: the next moment it can be totally different again.

Very well done!

If one thinks of animals in action this scenery is really one that comes to mind. Haven't we all seen this in documentaries?

I like the colours and the splashing in the bottom, together with the dust higher up on the bank. It really gives the impression of a lot of movement and a lot of noise. Well done!

This photo caught my eye immediately. It's so different from all the others and you have to look twice to actually see what's going on.

The composition, the colours, the background and the light: all wonderfully captured! A lovely image of quite a cruel moment.

I love this image! It's so well in focus, the colours are so great and the moment... wow! It's almost as if they're having the best joke ever, but of course we know better.

The depth of field makes this one really stand out.

This image is a bit mysterious, because of the light and the colouring. I like the backlight in it, with a little bit of bokeh in the foreground. The moment is perfect: the fish is still flying but you know it's the last second we'll see it.

Talking about moments, this is absolutely a wonderful moment to capture, well done! The clouds, the sunset and the almost silhouettes make the photo quite mysterious.

For me I think the image would have been even better if there was a little less foreground and if the dark patch on the upper right corner was a bit smaller, may be just losing one or two antelopes in the process.

All by all quite a different and stunning shot!
