Alcohol

April 2025

This is a nicely executed image with very atmospheric lighting. The colour palette of the red drink contrasts great with the grey background. The detail of the liquid pouring and the bubbles are lovely. I particularly like the angle of the liquids in the glasses, a clever touch.

Congratulations on producing this image. I like the atmospheric lighting, the glow inside the wine bottle balances very nicely with the overall lighting on the bottle and grapes. The fact that this is all shot in camera, the work that went into it definitely deserves the top spot.

This was a pleasant change on the subject of alcohol. This image worked especially well because of all the tones and textures. The white crumpled can contrasts well against the dark road and drain while the yellows, golds and red colours give the image a burst of colour.

I like this very simple yet strong picture. The glint of sunlight in the sky reflected in the glass gives it a nice, late afternoon/ evening feel. The sharp inverted reflection of the umbrellas contrasts well with the soft, out of focus background making the glass of wine really stand out.

This is a clever and interesting angle and the reflections and shadows work very well on the wooden surface. I like the way the brand of the drink can be read in the shadow and the warm orange tones of the drink and the wood all compliment each other nicely.

The composition of this image is very strong. I like the converging lines of the table and chairs framed nicely with the window frames. The colour palette is nice with the red and oranges contrasting well against the pastel blues of the sea and sky.

This image has been very well shot, nothing says a cold beer more than this shot. The back lighting has worked well and the droplets of condensation have been created nicely giving that cold, refreshing feel. I like the fact that there are no distracting reflections in the bottle.

This is a very strong image. The lighting has been very well done, relying on the back light to light the liquid and label with some fill light from the front to lift the shadows and light the top of the bottle. The bokeh effect adds to the drama!

This is a very strong image, I like the strong colour of the red contrasting with the green of the rim of the glass. Looking directly down onto the top of the drink is an interesting angle which shows the details and texture in the ice very nicely.

The ice, lemon and rosemary in this drink create an interesting abstract feel about this picture, almost like a painting. The soft light adds to its painterly feel. I like the highlights in the liquid as it wraps around the ice cubes and the leaves of rosemary.

The fizz, bubbles and spray in this image give it loads of energy. It is very nicely lit highlighting the bubbles and liquid droplets on the bottles and the bokeh of the droplets in the air is very nice. The low camera angle gives the bottles a 'hero' look.

This is an interesting take on the alcohol subject. I like the way the shadow and reflection of the wine through the glass tells the story. The use of the spot red colour against the monochromatic tones of the white surface and black shadows makes a great picture.

I like the atmospheric quality of this picture, it is a very simple but strong image. The cool blue and silver tones are very nice and the shafts of light coming through the surface of the water gives it a tranquil feel. This could be a great ad for ocean clean ups.

I like the feel of this atmospheric, lifestyle image of wine glasses shot on location. The nice, warm golden hour light adds to the cinematic feel. The glasses are nicely positioned on the rock and the out of focus foreground creates a great bokeh effect.

As Homer Simpson famously slurred... “To alcohol! The cause of, and solution to, all of life’s problems.” Everything from product shots to documentary images are acceptable in this contest, as we explore the world of liquor - its production, packaging, advertising, enjoyment and impacts on our world.

This is a very well executed, eye-catching still life image. The lovely, soft graduated rim lighting on each side of the bottle accentuates their shapes while the subtle red glow of the wine in the glass contrasts very well against the black bottles and background.
