A fabulous image, recognisable but equally abstract, full of fascinating details throughout. The simplicity of the composition allows the viewer to give full attention to the lines, shapes and textures, which are here in abundance. I especially like what looks to be subtle vein details under the surface of the ear, and the ragged edges to the ear, testament no doubt to the rigours of the life of an elephant. Congratulations on your winning image.

I love this super-close in view of a sheep, wonderfully detailing both the short hairy textures on the face and the thick matted wool of the body. Just enough of the face is included in the frame to give context, as while the shot is supposed to be abstract, it works well to have a few clues as to what we are viewing. The square crop suits the subject too. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.

This image leaves little to the imagination in wondering what a ring-tailed lemur would likely feel to the touch, as this fabulous image wonderfully captures the textures of the thick wooly fur. A great abstract, the eye is initially drawn to the lemur's eye, before wandering around the frame to maybe wonder how many creatures we are viewing in this huddle of bodies. A great frame-filling shot. Congratulations on your second place finish.

In this contest I would like to see your abstract photos of animals that focus on their surface textures or patterns rather than general portrait shots. Your image can show any animal, excluding humans, but should focus only on the fur, wool, scales, hair, feathers or skin. Try to fill the frame with the subject, and highlight the visual patterns or physical textures of the creature, rather than show the entire animal or head shot etc. Photos can be in colour or black and white. I look forward to seeing your entries.

There were a number of entries in this contest showing several animals together, but they tended to loose their abstract look and become more documentary shots. Not so here though, as we see a tight mass of hairy little bodies. Looking to likely be processionary caterpillars which are best avoided if wanting to avoid a nasty outcome, they do however make for a great shot. I am not sure if there has been a little manipulation of the colours, but the contrast between the warm orange and cool blue is lovely. Well done on your top ten placing.
