My second placed image makes this contest a 'birdy' one for me, and what a fine specimen this is! This apparently is a red-legged seriema, not a bird I've ever seen before, but I've spent quite some time studying this wonderfully intricate headshot. The framing is excellent, with a good use of negative space on the right.
This riot of pink activity is my winner in this New Joiners 'Animals' contest, and I love it. It's surprisingly difficult to make sense, photographically, from a crowded scene like this, but it's been ahcieved wonderfully by the photographer. I'm also a fan of the colour treatment, and the more muted and subtle approach to the colour of the flamingoes works very well. I've enjoyed judging this contest, and it's a notably strong Top 10 that I've chosen.
