In spite of the low visibility from the rain, you managed to capture both the rain and the elephant in good clarity, in an amazing photo of the herd. The calf nursing from its mother adds yet another dimension of interest. Well shot!

I've both participated and judged contests with big cats, and this one is just stunning. The rain is difficult to see but still present with the 1/2500 shutter speed, and the clarity of the lioness's face is great. But this photo really captures my attention with the animal's eyes. Super clear, the patterns look like the rings of an old tree stump, and kept me looking!

Yes, mother nature can be cruel, but that doesn't take away from the absolute beauty of this photograph. The rain in the background, the pose of the kestrel holding its pray, and even the interest added by the rotting log all contribute to a memorable capture. Well done!

Meet the judge

Every time I look at this picture it makes me smile and laugh a bit. I can clearly make out the drops of rain at your 1/500 shutter speed, combined with the water dripping from the branches. But the real staying power of this photo comes from the subject itself. Who hangs like that? Beautiful resolution and colors, the bird is both hanging and eating, something I've never seen, and the eye is crystal clear. Fantastic shot.

Taking clear shots in lowered visibility rain is a challenge by itself, but this 1/1250 shutter speed shot is beautifully frozen in time by the RF 400mm lens. It really displays this vulture in all its glory, from the tips of its wings to the tips of its talons.

This was a great choice to print in black and white! It looks like a piece of art that should be in a gallery today! The focus feels about perfect as the animal and its surroundings are crisp, the rain/snow is not only visible, it adds to the images' interest, and well, the cow is staring me down! Love it.

This is one of those photos I would love to have been able to take myself. It is just stunning on multiple levels. First, the bear cub is so clear, and has obviously climbed to the precarious tip of the pine tree. Second, I can clearly see the rain in the picture. Third, and this is a big one, how did you get a straight on shot of this bear at the top of a tree? Amazing.

Beautifully captured! Not only does this exemplify the brief for this contest of animals in the rain where both the animals and the rain can be seen clearly, there is an abundance of heartfelt emotion expressed by the baboons cuddling for warmth that keeps me looking. What an intimate and well colored, well framed shot!

So much to look at in this wonderful photo! The aperture was closed enough to allow the entire bird and a good portion of the water ripples to remain in focus, and the shutter speed clearly allowed the drops above and striking the water to be clearly seen. The bird sitting on the colorful rock and the ripples in the water, and wondering what the bird is looking at in the water, all gave this image staying power. Congrats!

I love this image. Sure, there are a lot of squirrel pics, but seldom do we get to see a head-on jump, in the rain, with the head and paw in such clear focus? I can almost feel what it would be like to jump through the air.

I loved this picture for so many reasons, but in short, every aspect of it is interesting. The intricate coloring and details of this mossy frog are stunning, an the entire animal stays in good to fantastic focus, as does the interesting piece of wood it is hanging onto. The rain can be clearly seen, although I suspect this image was inverted due to the rain's direction of travel! Very interesting photo.

This is an absolutely stunning image! I can just barely see the rain, but it IS there! The hairs of the sickle and individual droplets on the cricket are in perfect focus. The flower and the cricket both look like they were created by a master glassworker due to their translucent qualities, but in much finer detail. A master photo!

This is a beautiful and very interesting photo! Is this camouflage for its antlers? Did it just use its antlers to root around in the forest floor litter to make a warm spot in the rain? Too tired to shake it off? No matter... it is a fascinating image of the deer, the greenery in its antlers, and the forest floor. Well done!

This strikes me as both on brief and as a piece of artwork. I keep finding additional things to look at. The close up of the eye, the unusual framing, the flecks of snow in the fur, and the single drop of water hanging from the lowest piece of fur.

Looking closely, I can see both the raindrops in the background and the droplets from the shaking hare. I love this image because it is dynamic, interesting, beautifully colored, setting the hare between the front and rear bokeh perfectly.

This is a true portrait in the rain. 1/400 shutter speed allowed you to capture the rain, and the dog is in great focus and well composed. Your decision to show the space to the left of the dog gives the image room to breath and provided context, making a beautiful overall image. Well done.
