A striking image of a beautiful little bird, clinging on to some vital food left out to help see the little creature through the harsh winter. I especially love the details in the feathers; maybe a tad over-sharpened, but still contributing to a great shot. The capture of the falling snow adds mood to the image and certainly conveys the chill of winter. Congratulations on your third place finish.
What a great image. It really conveys a sense of winter in Yorkshiire, and despite the hint of sunlight on the sheep and the shadows cast, the chill of the day is almost palpable. There is a great naturalness to the shot with no heavy editing effects, and although a colour photo, aside from the warm creamy white of the sheep and church tower, the harsh weather and bare trees give an otherwise monochrome look. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.
This image may not turn out to be a crowd-pleaser, but I think it is great! The composition and framing is unusual, but for me it demands attention, and once drawn to the shot, there is much to appreciate. The placement of the dog so close to the top of the frame adds a certain dynamic to the composition, and the stark contrast between the white of the snow and the black of the spindly hedge and the running dog give a really creative touch to the image. I love that you have dared to be a little different and it certainly won me over. Congratulations on your winning image.

A beautiful scene of penguins on a snowy beach at the end of the day in the evening light. Your image description paints a wonderful picture of the fleeting changes of the light; no doubt the same scene captured under the very dark skies just previously would have had its attractions, but the clearing of the clouds to allow the weakly warm colours from the setting sun add a lovely mood to the shot. I like the framing of the image, with the penguins being close enough to be the obvious subject, but we also see plenty of the surrounding landscape to get a real sense of the location. Congratulations on your second place finish.

This contest is for your photos of animals in the snow. Images can show any species of animal, and can include wild animals, pets and farm animals. The snow can be falling or laying on the ground, but it must be a significant feature of the photo. Please only enter images showing real snow, not falling snow effects added digitally in photo editing. Entries can be in colour or black and white. I look forward to seeing your photos.
