In this image light and shadow play is downright artistic! The light passing through the glass has created a stunning refraction shadow that compliments the bar shadows. This is the kind of experimentation I like to see in a photo of glass. Many images submitted in the contest explored light and shadow with great results, but I thought this one was most impressive of all. Congratulations on winning 5th place and thank you for entering my contest!
Photographing glass can be quite a challenge, but photographing it in mono adds another layer to the challenge.. Many of the submissions to this contest were superb, and it was truly difficult to choose a top ten among them. It was even more difficult to choose a winner among the top ten! After much deliberation, I finally had my winner. This photo has met the brief in every way. I love the play of light and shadow, which beautifully adds rich atmosphere and depth. The exposure is just right and sharpness superb to bring out every detail of the bottle and glass. Even smoke from the cigar laying in an ashtray played a big role in creation of mood. This is the work of an accomplished photographer! Thank you for entering my contest and congratulations on winning first place among so many wonderful submissions!
This is a brilliant use of lighting to capture all the detail of these chess pieces, especially since the background is black. I am rather partial to low key because of the dramatic and stark mood that it creates. The photographer composed this image in a way that makes me want to come back to gaze upon it again. Congratulations on winning 7th place, and thank you for entering my contest!

This clever composite caught my eye right away. Since I have never done composite work, images like this blow me away! The birds are precisely placed on the tungsten wire like they were alighting on a telephone line.. The bulb is well illuminated from behind to show every detail of the glass shape., and contrast is perfect. This image works well in black and white., a big requirement for meeting the brief. Thank you for entering in my contest and congratulations on winning 2nd place!
I love these old bottles and how the lighting captures the outlines of each one against a black background. The composition of the scene attractively displays each unique shape, and the image captured my attention enough to be among my top ten. Congratulations, and thank you for entering my contest!
There were several submissions featuring stained glass, which is quite a challenge to photograph in black and white since color is typically why we are drawn to it. This image however, has succeeded in drawing the eye to the interesting patterns of the stained glass window without need for color. In fact, color would have made it harder to see this pattern! The still life setting and light flowing through is a beautiful compliment to the window. The patterns created by the glass on the window sill and table produces an ethereal mood that I find so attractive. Congratulations on winning 6th place, and thank you for entering my contest!
There were a number of submissions featuring the use of a lens ball. They all were beautiful. This one stood out among the others because I love the simple geometric design and stark contrast between black void and the white dots. The use of square format was perfect for focusing all interest on the patterns and how the ball refracted the design. A wonderful example of how glass can be used to create art. Congratulations on winning 3rd place, and thank you for entering my contest!
I love old bottles and I love to photograph them. There were many submissions that used old bottles as the subject and I enjoyed all of them. However this photo won a place in my top ten because the use of lighting and excellent focus best accentuated the details of each bottle without need for excessive editing with the sharpening tool. I kept going back to look at and appreciate all the detail the photographer captured in each unique bottle. Congratulations on winning 4th place, and thank you for entering my contest!
There were many submissions of this type of refractive play with wine glasses. All were very good, but there was something about this image that particularly pleased my eye. The glasses are very well focused and lit in a way that you can see them clearly apart from the background, and I think black and white suits this image greatly. Congratulations on winning 8th place and thanks for entering my contest!
