I adore the atmosphere in this photograph. The boys intense concentration on his game (I bet his little toe was wiggling as he played) whilst sitting at home relaxed. Lovely lighting and well done balancing strong highlights with the rest of the image keeping details in both the shadows and highlights. Good composition with a nice use of the object in the foreground.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 1 and 250 in this week’s Leaderboard.** Atmospheric portraiture is that which adds layers of mood and interest over the top of the subject. Through the complex interplay of sitter, attire, surroundings, and lighting, the photographer can add context, drama, maybe some questions, or answers about what is being viewed.

A really eye catching photograph. Beautiful soft lighting really contrasts with the woman's pose which enhances the image tremendously. I love the 2 shafts of light between the mirrors that help to break the line of reflections up. My only comment would be to see if some detail in the dark shadows would help bring more context to the portrait (it is possible that it wouldn't but I think it is worth trying to add to the concept of sadness and solitude - like a single toothbrush in a cup or something?). Well done on a really strong concept and well executed.

What a fabulous expression. I like the really shallow depth of field you have chosen so that the figures and tree behind are completely blurred meaning your entire focus is brought to Eva and her questioning look. Good choice on using B/W instead of colour as there are less distractions. I really nice, natural portrait.
A little dreamer indeed.. You have really captured her 'far away' stare as she watches out of the window. The various lines immediately draw your attention to her then her eyes are nicely framed at the bottom by the hands. Maybe a slow shutter speed with the outside blurring past would have added to the dreamy feel she give the portrait.
Now I have to admit I was in two minds as to whether this counted as a portrait but I just really liked the image and I decided there was enough of the man's face shown to make him recognisable. I love the tone, the details, the horizontal and vertical lines throughout and then the balance the round globe brings to the image. Maybe it would have been good to recompose the image so the man wasn't dead centre and it might also have been nice to have something out of focus on the left which could have helped to lead the viewers eye in.
