Autumn Landscapes

November 2021

The colours of the trees in this photograph are really attention grabbing. It makes me feel like I am in a swamp surrendered by alligators. My advice is to try and isolate the main subject a little bit more from the background and make it look cleaner. When you have a chance to photograph reflection it makes sense to frame the image half and half. Your shot is missing the bottom. It would be worth to return to this location and try to work on the composition.

Simple framing with lovely autumnal colours, great light and mist. It is really looking nice. My only concern is the distracting elements. When composing your shots you have to remember these things. If you wish to avoid removing certain elements from a photograph you could try to frame it in a different way when taking the photograph. I would personally try to walk to the other side of the tree, turn around and make the distracting subjects disappear in the fog. I always try to avoid human built things when photographing nature. It is nice image though. I think the light and fog make it. Well done.

Beautiful, well framed photograph with nice pastel colours that makes me feel very calm. I like the way the photographer has framed this image. My eyes go from the little mound on the right and follow the tree line and path to the bottom. The path turns right then and even though it cannot any longer be seen, my attention is still being dragged to where it would continue. Mist makes the scene very atmospheric looking and the mountains at the back complete it. It looks like the sky was not great that day and the photographer was trying to fix it. It is bit messy but it was good decision to not include too much of it in the frame. Especially with such a strong foreground. Brilliant shot. Well done.

This fantastic frame absolutely stands out from all the entries. As much as I am not the biggest fan of selfies, I couldn't resist choosing it. Falling leaves add dynamism to the scene and the person standing on the path, looking into the misty unknown, fits in so well. Maybe it would look better if the person was wearing different colours other than black. Also, making the person move would perfectly match the dynamism of the falling leaves. I would like to direct your attention to yellow areas in the fog., especially around the centre of the image, third leave from the top. White balance should fix this easily. Nothing big to worry about. It's just my thought and it doesn't affect the overall impression of this photograph. It is an outstanding capture. A big well done to the photographer.

Epic, moody forest. We all want to get photos like this one. The mystical fog and gorgeous light really make this shot. Everything is very well balanced. Your control of light is just perfect. This image has great potential however you have to remember to not include watermarks when entering competitions. Most judges will reject them immediately. I am placing it in the top 10 because it really stands out. Well done to the author.

A classic view from the Scottish Highlands. All the elements work well together in this frame and make it look stunning. The long exposure adds some nice atmosphere but I have a few comments. I think the photographer should turn slightly to the left when taking the shot or make sure the tree to the right is in the frame or cut it out. The tree is blurred anyway which was caused by wind and magnified by the long exposure. Also, there is some extra post-processing required in the centre of the sky. I can see a strongly overexposed part. Adding a bit of softness to the standing water would make it look slightly nicer. The contrast slider is something what we all have to be careful with. Glencoe is an excellent place to practice and improve all weather photography and you heading the right way.

A very nice landscape with a strong composition and natural light. I love the way railway tracks go to the centre and then turn right making me want to know what is hidden around the corner. The only remark I have is the road below which I find a bit of distraction. I wonder if you could get rid of it by going lower down with your camera? It isn't a big deal really and I still think it is a beautiful frame. Well done.

I absolutely love the simplicity of this image - the autumnal colours, composition, reflection and mist - it has all the elements and they work well together. It looks like it could be anywhere which encourage us to check our own neighbourhood. I could say that including more of the water reflection would make it look better but from my own experience it could also mean adding distracting elements. I don't really know what the shore of the pond looked like and I am trusting the author with her/his choice. Excellent image. Congratulations.

What an amazing photograph. An excellent idea and great find. The lines on the fields leading to the trees show the author's great creativity. I walked away from the screen a few times and every time I returned I was getting dragged in by the image and seeing lines everywhere. I wonder how this place would look at sunset or sunrise? Also, it might be worth trying to move down with the camera to get rid of the background. This may create a more minimalistic frame with an even stronger composition.

What a great idea for an autumnal shot. We all walk into spider webs at this time of the year. In some places like forests, bits of them literally fly everywhere! Why not photograph them instead of wiping them off our faces! As it is a very minimalistic shot, and it really has only one subject, I would suggest centering it more in the frame or moving the camera slightly to the right. The way the web is currently positioned makes this shot slightly too tight on the left. Great exploring skills and nice post-processing.

Wow! There is so much happening here. This is a really brilliant composition. The colours are spectacular, the flow of the water is captured perfectly and the little wooden house in the centre completes the frame. The sky looks little bit overexposed in the area where the sun is but it doesn't affect the great impression I am getting by looking at it. It certainly deserves a top 10 place. Fantastic work. Well done.

I love images showing the transition between Autumn and Winter. Photographing in the Dolomites at this time of the year can be challenging. When the frost comes, the skies are often clear and light is harsh. However, there are many great things happening in this photograph that make the issues I've mentioned irrelevant. The blue skies and snow capped mountains contrast well with the amazing colours of the forest. Excellent idea with the square framing. Well done.

Great idea for an autumnal shot. It doesn't always have to be big vistas, sometimes it's just worth stopping and looking around for a nice subject. The mushrooms and leaves on the wood represent autumn in a great way. There is a lovely side light on this photo and bokeh makes the main subject stand out. I think that the bottom right of the image wasn't exposed correctly which has caused loss of some details. It is worth trying multiple exposures in this case. Generally, the photograph has great impact and shows amazing creativity by the author. Congratulations, it is really an amazing photograph.

Aerial photography allow as to discover new territories which used to be inaccessible for us. I love it myself and often use my drone to find different perspectives. Autumn is a great time to use a drone and this is a brilliant example of what to look for. The road leading through the image was a great idea combined with the beautiful tree colours. I personally would crop it into square frame to centre the road a bit as my eyes are being dragged by it. You have also applied nice post-processing which isn't easy. We have to remember drones are really flying phones. Great job.

The Dolomites are truly fascinating with a large amount of epic locations that are relatively close to each other. Lago Di Federa is one of the most beautiful places of the entire Alps. It was a great choice to visit this location in the Autumn. Fair play to the author for making the long two hour hike in the darkness to capture the image. The light looks like the photo was taken well after sunrise which suggests a late arrival or that the sunrise was blocked by clouds. Unfortunately we cannot control the weather. I experienced similar in many places when visiting the Dolomites. The image is well composed. The only thing I would work a bit on is the sky to the left. It looks like certain places are overexposed which can be easily fixed. Amazing place and very good execution by the photographer.

Keats’ season of mists and mellow fruitfulness is a wonderful time to shoot landscapes. The greens of the summer give way to yellow then brown, and there is still light aplenty and a little warmth in the air most days.
