I love this photo. The central and balanced composition works well with the rounder shape of the owl. The bird's reddish tones contrast the greens of the background and the mossy log due to red being complementary to green. This allows the bird to stand out and grab the viewers eye. This photograph did as well as it has due to the owls piercing stare which really makes the image (it shows emotion and tells a story). In order for the image to do better I would have liked to see a larger amount of sharpness and focus on the birds eye but overall it is a great image. 👍🏻

This image was my favourite from the whole contest. It was a no doubt surefire winner. The photographs balance and symmetry both ways captivate the viewer. Both reflection and animal equally as captivating. The subject's eyes stare into the camera, grabbing the viewers attention and hooking them. The image is in a perfect amount of focus and it grabs the viewer. Overall this photo is simply captivating.

This image is really captivating. The baby's facial expression shows so much emotion. His open mouthed strained look show signs of desperation. And it is in this that a story unfolds making the image so captivating. The baby is in perfect amount of focus which I love as It really softens the image. The subject also sits along the rule of thirds creating a nice amount of negative space which eliminates distractors and draws the viewers eye to him. however the mothers fur (which is partially in focus). Unfortunately grabs the viewers precious attention. also distracting from the main subject. perhaps cropping the image could provide some aid to this.

I love this image. the lion cub is placed. almost perfectly along the rule of thirds providing a great amount of negative space into the image. this space eliminated distractors and draws the viewer back to the subject. One could even say the image uses the golden spiral for composition as well which gives it a more natural and organic feel. 👍🏻😀. The lion's reddish fur and the red soil are complementary to the backgrounds green allowing them to contrast and henceforth standout; grabbing the viewers eye. my absolute favourite and the winning feature of this image is the sharpness in focus of the lions eyes and face. his eyes grab the viewers as they stare dead onto the camera. and their sharpness along with the eye grabbing highlights along them really captivate audiences. whilst understand the lions stance does show a story the only thing that could make the image better is by enhancing a story or particular action. but overall the image is stunning.

I simply love this image. The bore's eye is in complete focus which really grabs the viewer. The baby is surrounded by a really nice softened, shallow depth of field which eliminates distractors and emphasises the animal. There is just the right amount of the animal in focus. This softer focusing gives the image that real romanticised look and almost fairy tale like scene. The pig is almost on the right hand side rule of third which leaves a nice amount of negative space surrounding him. However I would like to see the rule of thirds strengthened in this image as it would make the composition even more appealing. This can be achieved with come careful cropping. 👍🏻😀. overall it is a very cute and well taken photograph.

In this contest I would like to see your photos of baby animals which have been captured showing the effect of a shallow depth of field. A shallow depth of field can be used in various ways, but here the photos should show the baby animal in focus whilst the background and surrounds are out of focus, drawing the viewers eye towards the subject.
