This image was immediately alluring with the soft glow of the tent in the foreground paired with the softness overcasting the mountains on the horizon. The color of the tent arrests the viewer's eyes and offers a cozy shelter from the open plains. It's easy to place yourself in the scene when looking at it.
The composition and framing of this photo is intriguing. The exclusion of the sky removes depth from the image and gives an almost flat feel to the picture, allowing the viewer to take in all the details. The switchbacks lead the viewer's eye through the stimulating texture of the grass and rocks. The hiker's attire adds a brilliant pop of blue to the scene. It's a fascinating photo.
I love the clarity and sharpness of this photo. The composition is also superb, with the line of the mountain leading right up to the subject. I also admire the effort behind this photo, getting the right timing for the golden hour, which is lovely, not to mention the work to get the subject and the camera into position.
This photo is the winning image for me. The placement of the subject really emphasizes the expanse of the landscape. The backpacker is also in sharp focus against a background that contrasts the subject, making him stand out. I also love the color and composition of this photo, the crisp clarity in the grass without losing detail in the distant hills, and the lighting and mist is fabulous. All around, a beautiful capture. Thank you.

The perspective of this image caught my attention. The placement of the subject makes the hiker appear to be on the edge of the world. It's exciting to imagine the view the subject has of the vast space between himself and the mountain in the background. I also appreciate the exposure of this image, that the sky is not completely blown out white, nor is the hiker too dark to distinguish the details of his pack and gear.

I would like to see your best photos that relate to people backpacking. The picture must include a person or human-related element such as a hiker, a tent, a camping stove; something indicative of a backpacking or hiking trek, not just a landscape or outdoor portrait. Try to tell a story with the photo that communicates the solidarity, exhaustion, and/or the joy that comes from an extended time in the great outdoors. Photos can be in colour or black and white. I look forward to seeing your pictures.
