5- This looks like a very tasty selection of baked items for afternoon tea, but the photographer is really not doing it justice. A couple of tips for the photographer for next time to get a better result they should first, get a little closer to the subject matter so it fills and dominates the frame, always consider the background and if possible move the subject so the background is plain and less cluttered so it will stand out far better. The photographer should also try moving the subject matter closer to a window and experiment with different camera angles. Remember, food loves natural daylight best.
4- I love this image as a food shot and and as a commentary to our lives, as it sums up many of my experiences with the toaster at breakfast in my life. It’s a very unusual and original approach to shooting toast and I love the abstractness of it. It’s a little off brief for a baking competition, but if I was judging a grilling competition, then it would definitely be up there in my top ten, for sure.
2- Most of the entries in this competition were close up food shots of varying degrees of quality, so it was nice to see something different with this excellent reportage shot of an actual bakery. The photographer has successfully managed captured all the key elements of busy bakery very well with a wide selection of delicious baked goods on show and plenty of activity with the staff and has balanced up the daylight from the shop window very well with artificial lighting in the shop. I wish was my local bakery.
1- There were some awesome food shots in this competition and any of my top ten could have easily won, but this particular image made its way to the top as a great food shot, which importantly tells a story which goes beyond just the biscuit.
I love unbalanced composition with the hands positioned to the right of the frame, as it adds to the chaos that baking with children is and gives the image a wonderful reportage feels and makes the whole image look natural and uncontrived.
Great choice of subject matter, lovely soft lighting and the treatment adds atmosphere to the image with its complimentary colours.

The words 'Baked food' might conjure up delicious images of impressive cakes and gently browning loaves, but it can be so many things besides. Each culture has their own go-to selection of baked goods, sometimes cooked in an oven, or perhaps on hot stones or in hot ashes. Photograph any food you like for this contest, so long as it's been baked.
