Meet the judge

This is an absolutely fantastic composition of a bat in flight.

The angle you caught it at, the position its wings are in, the water droplets flying all over, all make it a fabulous action photo.

The colors make this photo pretty with all of the rippled greens and yellows visible across the water, and the sun bringing out the browns in the bat's wings.

This is an amazing photograph in every way. Congratulations on it!

This photo is without a doubt, a perfect image.

Each element of the photo seems to jump out at us because of the stunning contrast due to the black background. The colors also make everything stand out more. There's only the bat and the plant, but the plant has tons of color and the bat along its arms and legs has reds too.

Even how everything is positioned is just right with the flower drooping down and the bat making a kind of square around where the plant and flower is with its wings.

I also can't believe the detail in this shot. Especially in the bat which I'm sure was flying pretty fast so it is incredible that you caught it this good. If you zoom in on the photo you can see literally every line throughout its wings.

Absolutely amazing job on this photograph. It's definitely one of the best bat photos I've ever seen!!!

This is a cool, dark, macro bat photo with an almost eerie vibe to it.

The lighting is an important aspect of this photo. The photo having been taken very close to the bat and the darkness that lingers throughout gives it a dark and enclosed feel which goes well with the photo being of a bat since that is where they like to live. Nice job on capturing this feeling and not managing to overexpose the image since you probably took it with a flash.

The clarity of the bat's face is great and allows you to be able to really see its details. Bats of this type are pretty small (as you mentioned in your description) and you rarely get to see their details like this. Congratulations on getting such an up close photo.

Awesome job on your 7th place photo!

This is a really stunning capture!

You managed to perfectly get this bat in focus and also managed to catch the water droplets, and the spot where I grabbed some water from, still rippling.

The colors of this photo are nice with how there are many different subdued ones across the water's surface. The bat's neck also has some nice orange that really stands out.

Well done on such a great action photo of this bat!

This is a great photo of some interesting bats!

The bats' bright whites and yellows stand out nicely against their green "tent" they're in.

Nice job on getting such an up close photo. These little guys are so small that unless viewed up close, would be hard to make out a lot of detail.

The lines in the leaf are interesting to me with how they all lead to the bats. A very cool thing that worked out to make the photo even better!

Great job on finding and capturing these little bats, and well done on your composition of the photograph. This is a very interesting and different bat photo than any I've seen before!

This is a beautiful bat photo with amazing clarity, photographed in an unusual setting.

Bats tend to live in dark, enclosed spaces, but this one looks almost like a sloth or monkey hanging up in a tree eating figs!

I love the bokeh in the background. I don't know if any other photos in this contest had bokeh in them so great job capturing such a unique thing in a bat photo.

The clarity of this photo is fabulous, every part of the bat is in focus!

Well done on this great composition and taking a photo good enough for 9th place!

This is a photo that focuses purely on the bat, the theme of this contest.

This guy actually looks like a puppet or stuffed animal to me because of how fuzzy he is and the color of the wings. Even the lips have an orange color to them that you wouldn't expect a creature like this to have! An interesting species for sure.

The lighting here is really nice and the closeness of the photo lets you see so many details.

I love that you caught this photo at the perfect time to have not only captured the bat greatly, but to have also caught a little bug flying in the background! That is literally the only other thing in the photo besides the bat.

Awesome job on capturing such a minimalistic and great image of this bat.

The lighting, angle, and overall look of this photo is very unique and well done.

I love the light throughout this photo and how it is on different spot of the photo, and especially how it is softly lighting up the bat's head as this highlights it and allows you to view more details right at the spot that the photo is in the most focus.

Great job on capturing this photo at the right time of the bat licking itself! That's definitely not something you normally see with bats and that makes this photo even more unique.

Your angle you caught this bat at is nice with how it is almost as high as the bat is, but viewed from slightly underneath.

I should also comment on the look of this photo. You must have achieved this in editing. Well done on how you did it. This sort of darkened the photo, which brings out the lit up spots more, seems to have made it more colorful, and adds an overall unique look and feel to it.

Well done on everything here and taking a photo good enough for 3rd place!

This is a wonderful bat image which has a lot of great natural framing going on.

The stick surrounds a lot of the bat, and there are other leaves and branches all over surrounding and framing the bat, the subject of the photo.

Because it was raining, the sky was gloomy which gives the photo a cool and almost eerie feeling. It also darkened the whole image along with the leaves and branches which blends perfectly with the bat's dark colors.

Speaking of them, this bat has actually really pretty colors. Even though he is mostly dark, he is almost silvery along his chest, brighter by the eyes, and the wings with their dark browns. The claws on its left wing also have silvery colors which stand out nicely.

Well done on finding and photographing this bat. This is an absolutely fantastic composition!!!

Fabulous shot, but the animal shown here is a Colugo which is not in the bat family (in case you didn't know that) and that is why I have given is no award. Amazing job though and if it were of a bat I would have for sure awarded it.

This photo is absolutely terrific!

It is hard to capture a bat at all in flight, but you have managed to capture this bat's entire wingspan, in focus, perfectly frozen in flight, and with every detail of its wings showing up from the light shining through them.

Not too many photos give you this good of a view of a bat's wings fully outstretched but here you get a perfect view of every detail. It is amazing to see how their arms and fingers look especially.

Congratulations on having managed to capture such a fantastic photograph and one good enough for 8th place!

What a terrific image this is! It is hard enough to capture bats at all, and much less in flight. But here you have managed to create a bat perfectly still in flight, looking down at a city below! Even though it is blurred, you can make out lots of details and even a sunset/sunrise in the back! I've never seen a bat photo like it. Excellent job on your composition!
