Black and White - 25 and under

This is a brilliantly executed image. The lines shapes and textures are wonderful, and having the figures give scale and direction. I also love the separation between the figures and the fact their shadows aren’t crossed by anything else, which lends a simplicity that would have been missing if any of those elements had touched.

Captivating! I would have this on my wall at home, printed really big. I simply love the detail contained within the frame, the random nature of the crystals but a delightful composition and seen in black and white keeps the eye moving around the frame in such a way that i just wanted to look at it for ages.

A strong graphic image that is perfectly finished by the use of black and white. The detail in the shadows is fantastic, I can feel the felt of the hat just by looking at the textures captured. The sharply etched lips draw my eye in, but the shadow under the hat is intriguing and left me wondering what do her eyes say or hide? I love that every tone is represented in this one frame from a bright white above the lips to the deep black of the jacket. It’s a very sophisticated capture.

There is so much emotion in this image and the photographer has done an excellent job of capturing this. The composition is clever and balances the young and old together. The girl appears curious at the photographer making a direct connection to the audience whilst the man in the centre is consumed by emotion and unaware of being photographed. The two contrast well together. The black and white finish adds to the overall impact to tell the story rather than distracting from it.

The contrast in the image has been nicely processed and the black and white effect has been greatly considered. The composition could do with a tweak to hide the cluttered bottom strip of the frame. Some of the drops in the centre of the frame are also slightly soft which detracts from the overall effect.
