A really good quality head shot - would work well for an actor. The background is not distracting and the positioning of the eyes in the frame works well. She has a nice expression, not over the top but also not bland which is good for a head shot. I like the hair all on one side (it is a little 'frizzy' so if this was mine for an actor I would tidy up the flyaway's a bit). Lovely catch lights in the eyes, nice slight tilt to the head complements the slope to the shoulders and the gentle hand on the chin finishes the whole look of nicely. A nice head shot well executed all round. well done.
A beautiful portrait. I love how "M's" gentle, far away look is complemented by the big soft light. Their thoughtful expression combined with relaxed clothing and hair give a real sense of a great kid. I like the lack of detail on the right and how they just fade into the dark background. Great work, well done.
What a really nice, striking shot. I love the concept. The hair is as important as the eyes in this shot so I like that it is all sharp - good choice on aperture. The framing of the eyes has been done really well - you haven't been too fussy on the hair placement which would have made it look too forced. Instead it looks quite natural and perfectly highlights those amazing eyes (and eyelashes) Its hard to tell on my screen but looks like she has been cut out from a background in Photoshop - just be careful to make it look more natural by softening the edges. Really well done on the lighting. The shadows from the braids could have been really distracting if you had lit her from the side but the front light works well Great idea well done.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked 1001+ in this week’s Leaderboard.** If you have an aspiring actor as a friend, there’s every chance you’ve been asked to shoot a black and white headshot. A focus on the face, stripped of colour, and presumably seen to be offering a kind of objective rendering of the person’s likeness, against which each can be judged against the other? Black and white headshots can still be bursting with creativity though. The expression, the direction of the head, and the eyes, the backdrop, the hair, there are still a lot of variables to play with, and the act of shooting someone’s headshot can be a great interaction between sitter and snapper.
