A lack of colour in portrait shots gives other elements and subtleties a chance to be seen and appreciated. Textures, expressions, negative space – these will all tell a story of their own, adding more depth and emotion than the image’s colour alternative. When looking for interesting things to include in your black and white portrait, don’t forget to try to THINK in black and white. Something that looks appealing in colour might be less impressive in monochrome.
