Buildings with No Roof

It is easy to be wooed by a sunrise/sunset shot, and this image is a great example of why. The sturdy mine buildings are nicely silhouetted against the golden sky, with the vegetation glowing golden in the foreground. What I especially like is that everything looks natural with no sky replacement and restraint in image editing with no over-saturation or harsh editing effects. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.

A great moody image of a sturdy stone cottage, missing its roof but looking to be part of the landscape. Conversion to black and white has been done really well, with a great range of tones and contrasts. Capture of ths textural details in the stonework and foreground vegetation is lovely. I love this capture of this rather beautiful scene, with the low mist hugging the gentle valleys. The lighting is lovely, with the early sunlight picking out small areas of the fields and trees, and the derelict barn virtually silhouetted against the lighter backdrop. A great image, showcasing this grand ruined abbey standing tall amidst the green fields. Composition and framing is great, with the abbey dominating the foreground, but enough surrounding landscape included beyond to give context. The colours work well too, with just shades of green contrasting with the warm greys of the stonework. Well done on your top ten placing.

I love the moodiness and drama of this image. Although relatively small in the frame overall, the roofless dwelling stands out well against the lighter areas of the darkened sky. Looking at the image, one can only wonder about the lives of whoever lived here in the remote, barren but starkly beautiful landscape. Congratulations on your winning image.
