Great contest!

There are probably better technical photos than this one in this competition but this one stands out for me because it is a relatively common, accessible, butterfly captured in an ordinary garden in an extraordinary way. The low sun provides interesting natural lighting but what really makes this work, for me, is the quality and colour of the bokeh; complementary without being distracting or overpowering. Very nice!

This photo seems almost surreal. Capturing moving butterflies in sharp focus with pleasing colour and composition is incredibly difficult; doing so without background distration even more difficult. You have achieved both of these perfectly here., congratulations!

This series of photos feels iconic on this site to me - truly inspirational to the rest of us in terms of taking buttefly photography and turning it into an art form, from concept to inception, in its own right. This would, of course, be a worth winner of any contest.

This is an absolutely fantastic wildlife shot (though it is not quite what I had in mind for this particular competition). Well done for such an awesome capture!

This is an awesome photograph in terms of colour, colour contrast, composition and capture of a moving butterfly. Truly inspiring, I am now off in search of a rape field!

A photo which perfectly illustrates how to take butterfly photography from documentary into an art form. A stunning technical capture in every respect, but it is the curves of the branch seeming like an almost organic continuation of, and counterpoint to, the curves of the butterfly that make this stand out even more. So perfect it seems almost posed.

Awesome capture. Would really like to understand how the full spectrum sensor impacted on the result, and how the project was concevied and implemented - fascinating!

I was looking for something different and this shot really did it for me. Front on, underwing, central, imposing and symmetrical, the backlighting and white parts of the bokeh all work wonderfully together for me to provide an intense atmospheric image.

An awesome capture of a beautiful butterfly, from its composition and geometry, uncluttered simplicity, the lighting, sharp focus, and the perfect colour combination of butterfly and soft background bokeh. Well done!

This is a beautiful capture - wonderfully balanced composition of butterfly and flower with sharp focus on the wings and no foreground or background distractions. It is particularly impressive - and inspiring to the rest of us - to see such an uncommonly strong capture of a commonly found and frequently photographed butterfly.
