The whimsy in this image is what captivated me, especially the bold colors. The cactus flower looks absolutely titanic compared to the little honeybee flying in to pollinate. I love the scale of this image and it is quite well executed. Compositions that make you feel like you are on-scale with the subject are one of my favorite types of photo making.
What a truly phenomenal image and composition. Everything about it- from the eclipse to the eerie lighting on the cactus to the gentle purple hills is just perfect. You picked an excellent scene to set up on for this eclipse totality and I absolutely adore how it turned out. I don't have any critiques, just awe, fantastic work. What an ethereal image!

The composition here is perfect, a beautiful rich background helps the subject make so much more of a statement. The specimen here is especially fascinating to me, I've never seen such a small succulent flower and in such great detail. This tiny piece of life on earth is a reminder of the incredible biodiversity that surrounds us. Capturing these moments allows us to showcase beauty most people might not see otherwise, which is such an amazing and inspiring facet of the art of photography. Excellent work!

**This contest is open to photographers ranked 1001+ in this week’s Leaderboard.** Succulents are plants that have parts which are thickened and fleshy and well adapted to storing water and surviving in water-scarce environments. One particular family, Cactaceae (Cactus) are almost all succulents. They store water in their stems, and their true leaves have usually been lost, replaced with spines, which are highly modified leaves. There are many strange-looking and beautiful cacti and succulents, and they are very popular as houseplants. All types, whether in the wild, or on your windowsill, can be entered into this contest.
