I kept returning to this scene and found myself captured by the subtle tones and atmosphere these create.
The grain makes me reminiscent of historic film scenes. The focus on the waiting woman brings a feeling of patience (the kind of patience we are all forced to have when dependent on public transport - a time to be idle, when things are out of our control), and the arrival of the train brings the relief. This photo is oddly comforting as it depicts such a familiar scene in its mundanity.
Motion, frozen focus, composition and fabulous use of using the low-light environment artistically makes this a stand-out for me.
This is the kind of image I would hang on my wall without a second thought! The grain and grit enhances the raw nature of this successful hunt of the Osprey, and creates a striking mood.
The frozen action, the clarity of the bird's eye, and the determination in the flight's direction add to the well balanced and composed image.
You turned an incredibly difficult to photograph scene into a glorious piece of art, that would not be questioned on a Nature Magazine's Cover, or any Wildlife Gallery Wall - or even as a center piece in someone's Study! Well done!
This shot was an instant stand-out to me! The talent and fast reaction required to pan at that speed, separate the subject from the background so well, capture the motion in wheels and direction and thus the excitement of the scene is nothing short of amazing!
Composition, placement and colour balance add to the overall "wow" and would make this image a fabulous memory piece on Cooper's wall!
"Smudging Time" - what fantastic wording to describe this well pictured scene. I love the permanence of the exhibit, with people moving through it as if they were ghosts.
The image is superbly balanced, with the seated couple anchoring the scene in the here and now, whereas the figures' movements around the exhibit highlight the passing nature of humanity versus the static and long-term nature of the exhibit. Overall, a fabulous use of long exposure for keeping the image's story going and keeping within the brief of this contest!
Well done!
Fast action, testing surrounding, difficult light situation to work with, and ever changing positions of the subjects must have made this image a particularly difficult one to nail - and nail it you did!
Your use of monochrome, the stark contrast and skillful separation of the boxers from their surroundings turn this into a superb documentary shot of this challenging scene! A great example of capturing high speed, in a low-light situation. Well done!
I love the dynamic in this image. The idea, the planning that must have gone into the creation, and then the execution speak for itself!
The stark monochrome eliminates distractions, the fast movement trails enhance the anticipation of the spheres clacking together, and make me "hear" the sound before I see it happening!
It is such a simple concept and yet so engaging! Really well done and great use of long exposure. An image, I'd admire on any wall it would pop into my image!
A great example combining planning, execution, and luck! The first thing that struck me was the clever use of composition, light flares, and light trails through the slow shutter speed, and creating the urgency of motion around the stationary Fire Truck - thus enhancing the feel of frantic activity in and around this scene.
This is a great use of making low-light work FOR the image, and not against it. Sharp focus on the stationary truck, ominous darkness in the background, and rushing lights create this superbly composed image.

In this contest I would like to see your photos capturing motion and mood in low-light situations. Whether it is a nocturnal wildlife encounter, a fast-moving animal under thick foliage, a nightly street scene, or an atmospheric indoor moment, I would like to see how you tackle the challenges of shooting in low light, such as noise and preserving detail, whilst capturing motion.

When water turns into Fireworks! What a superb story this image tells - even without the image description, the scene tells itself here and speaks more than 1000 words! Well done!
You have turned an extremely challenging photographic situation into a piece of art, the light painted around the birds and water spray preserving the scene and story in more detail, than a brightly lit, detail shot could have done in this situation.
This image is another prime example of making low-light working for you, rather than against you. Your patience to wait for this scene and execute on it has paid off wonderfully! The result is amazing!
Pure Magic! This image is a spell come to life, a fantasy breaking into reality, and an invitation to dream!
I admire the simplicity of the setup, and stunning result it produced! The angle of appearing "smaller" than the deer enhances the majesty of this image. Fantastic story-potential here and so well executed! Really, really well done!

I find your choice of positioning, angling, use of light-trails and light situation is spot-on and you could not have found a better landmark! Well done!
