Carnivals, Parades and Fiestas

July 2023

This is a very different entry to all the other images submitted and one that grabbed my attention. There's something about the colours and composition I really enjoy. There's no information about the image which only adds to the mystery. The slow shutter speeds add to the energy and drama - excellent capture!

A lovely moment beautifully captured - an image full of joy. Lots of bright colours and smiles - a moment beautifully observed. The photograph has great composition too which is not always easy in a busy environment with people and cars,

Love this smiles and colours of this carnival image. The blurred face in the foreground adds another level to this beautifully composed image - a real in the moment in time. It feels like we are right there with them enjoying the sunshine and music!

I love the colours and atmosphere of this image. The harsh sunlight is diffused by the coloured smoke. We can just make out the face of a teenage girl pin sharp using a long lens against the blurred chaotic background. Great shot!

I love the mystery of this image evoking another time and place. Beautifully captured as the early evening light fades. Also good technical knowledge using fill in flash combined with a slower shutter speed making this a very nice observation. Great shot!

I love this portrait such a powerful image - the young boy's intense stare looking right back at the photographer. This photograph really stopped me in my tracks. Great observation which I think is what makes a great picture - well done a worthy winner!

A carnival queen captured against a stark black background - the bright sunlight highlighting her colourful costume and face. It's quite an unusual shot in so much there's very little else in the way of visual clues as to where she is. The fast shutter speed has stopped the action in it's tracks - great shot!

I love this shot - so much to look at. The colours and composition are working really well - half red and half blue against a clean white sky. The closed down aperture is keeping everything sharp - each individual face intent on playing their instrument. Nice work !

I love the energy of this image - the slow shutter speed has captured a moment in time which works very well. A figure among the fireworks - there's an audience but we can't really see them just the coloured smoke and the highlights from the fire crackers. Brilliant shot!

Despite the contentious subject matter I really love the colours and composition of this image. The stopped down aperture has kept everything in sharp focus throughout, from foreground to background. The flashes of bight pink contrasting beautifully against the red, white and yellow background colours. Great work.
