This is lovely. Emotionally it's calm, uplifting, cheerful, optimistic. Photographically it works because it's a fantastic moment in time, well lit, well composed, well exposed, well captured, the colours work and there's nothing distracting us from looking into these lovely boys faces and minds ! It doesn't matter if it was luck or skill or perserverance that got this shot ; to get all three boys looking right, eyes open, the right expression is to be congratulated. THe kind of shot that sticks in one's mind. Bravo !

This jumped out for me. It's so real, I almost feel like I know this boy just by looking at this picture. So many portraits have a slight forced look about them because a photographer has said 'do this, do that, for god's sake smile! ' and when you can see that, the real person isn't there. That's how fashion photographers operate. So I really like this because it's real, a lovely captured moment. How happy he is about it I don't know, but when he's older he'll laugh and be greateful you took it ! Keep doing it

***This contest is open to subscribers (members on the Challenger, Pro and Master subscription tiers). However if you're not a paying subscriber you can still purchase entries for £2 (GBP) per image.*** Children aren’t always the most cooperative of subjects, but don’t let that put you off. Portraits of children can be some of the most rewarding and joyful – a true legacy. All you have to do is get them to slow down long enough for you to take it! Much more than your standard “look at the camera and say cheese”, powerful portraits of children resonate with energy and character.
This is a nice image. But it looks over photoshopped and so that's what I see not the image. I don't know how much processing has been done but it almost looks like the boys have been pasted in. But it's a nice shot, with the car steering wheel ! Their expressions are nice and it's an image that maes you think and you want to look at and explore all the detail. But next time, try and get an exposure that works and don't worry about trying to get detail in every shadow and highlight - it's not possbile, camera's don't work like our eyes. Keep shooting though !
This is a nice image of this child. If I knew this child, I'd love it. But this is a competition for 'portraits', so the image needs to 'work' and it doesn't matter who the child is. So while this didn't get an award, don't be put off, it's a nice shot. Just not good enough for this competition. And the quality was very very high
This ins't a bad shot and I'm sorry to single you out - there were too many images like this looking like Steve McCurry shots. So when I look at them my reaction is -trying to be Steve McC - I'm sorry about that, you may not have been influenced by his work or maybe you have. Playgarism isn't a crime and it's the best form of flattery. But if you want to get somewhere in a photo competition, try to enter something that hasn't been seen before, that's how you stand out
