Thanks to all of you who entered the contest and for submitting such a variety of high quality images. In my judging I was looking for creative and eye-catching entries which fully met the brief and for this reason I had to discount quite a lot of excellent images of arched and oblate windows which were evidently not circular or elliptical.

There is no doubt that my first placed entry fully meets the brief as not only is it a circular window, it is also a bloody big circular window!

The shot works so well in monochrome and is carefully composed so that window is shown square on and the tight crop and diminutive cyclist really do emphasise the scale of the window.

All in all an imposing image and a well deserved first place.

Not only brutalist but bloody awful architecture too and it begs the question what deranged architect could possibly think that this building has any sense of the aesthetic?

Crikey but it looks like a load of concrete washing machines all stacked together.

That said it does make for a most striking photograph especially in conjunction with the no-nonsense monochrome presentation. If I had one minor criticism then I would suggest that you spend a little time straightening up the horizontals and verticals although from the oblique viewing angle this may not be possible.

Niggles apart this is a fine image and deserving of a top ten placing.

I honestly don’t know at the time of writing this review if this is the work of the same photographer as my winning entry.

It’s obviously the same window but this time in context with its surrounding architecture and as such it forms an informative companion piece to the aforementioned image.

It’s a pleasing viewpoint and once again the inclusion of the cyclist adds so much.

Well done on your top ten placing.

I’ve really surprised myself with my choice of top ten as they almost all feature modern architecture and not the period and ecclesiastical architecture which I typically photograph. Perhaps that’s because I appreciate all the more those people who excel at a genre that I really struggle with.

So modern architecture it is and this is another wonderful example of that ilk and the windows are indeed all circular.

There’s a lot to like here, the colour combinations work well as does the ad-hoc mix of lit and unlit windows. What I especially like here though is the jaunty viewing angle which adds so much interest to the overall composition.

Well done on your top ten placing …..

Please show me your best photographs that feature circular or oval (elliptical) shaped windows. Your photographs may be taken indoors or outside and you may show the detail of a single window or a wider view of a building exterior or interior containing one or more circular or oval windows. People may be included in your entries as long as the window or windows are clearly visible. Colour and monochrome entries are both acceptable.
