In this image, the composite elements are effortlessly woven into the original shot, adding a fantastic and dramatic flare. The fog adds interest and drama as well as helping the birds, the dynamic element this shot needed, to stand out against the trees. Lastly, the black and white grading helps pull all the elements together like they are one. A great example of composite landscape!
From the blurry water in the foreground, to the sharp rocks and waterfalls in the middle, to the trees & starry sky in the background: all these layers make this image an interesting, three-dimensional landscape. The blurry rocks in the foreground and the smooth, slow-shutter water add depth to the otherwise pin-sharpness of this shot. The exposure of the composited elements blends well with that of the original ones, creating an overall sense of realism and a striking end result in a pleasing colour scheme of greys and blues. This is a great example of how subtle and thoughtful composite can add to the appeal of an image.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 251 and 1000 in this week’s Leaderboard.** NOTE: All image elements must have been shot by the uploading photographer. Adding a dramatic sky to your landscape image can work wonders, but needs some skill too. It can also be a giveaway when a bright sky is paired with a dull landscape that was obviously shot under very different conditions. But the sky is definitely not the limit for composite landscape imagery, and with some good taste, well shot elements, and appropriately applied understatement, the sum can be very much more than the parts and produce impactful imagery that would be impossible to achieve with one capture.

I love how the photographer used their creativity to turn several images into one ethereal, abstract masterpiece. Dynamism is this shot's strong suit - between the blurry trees and the birds caught in flight, it's as if the whole scene is buzzing, changing in front of our very own eyes. Whereas the image would have worked even without the layer of flowers at the bottom, it's pleasing for the eye to have something still and sharp to frame the subjects in the midst of all the movement. Lastly, the slightly unusual cream & blue colour scheme makes the shot even more calming and dreamy, setting it apart from the rest. This image is definitely a great example of a successful composite landscape.
