Photo Oxford 2017 is pleased to announce its Open Call for photography submissions that investigate photography’s capacity to both conceal and reveal. The photographic medium is the perfect vehicle for an enquiry of this kind given its unique link to notions of perception and reality, truth and knowledge as well as photographers’ frequent use of the camera to lay bare what would otherwise remain unnoticed.
Photographers are invited to respond to the theme as widely as possible. Works can be from any kind of photography practice or application and we are inviting works that are, in particular, imaginative and provocative.
Please bear in mind that to be exhibited at Photo Oxford, we will need high res files of the winning entries, therefore please upload high res versions of your images to the contest.
Prizes in both the expert-judged and crowd-vote categories include £1000 cash, open discussion with Martin Parr, Alamy memberships and portfolio reviews, plus exhibition spaces at Photo Oxford with invitation to the private view.

All Top 20 exhibitors will receive an invitation +1 to a private view for the Open Call on Friday 8th September at OVADA in Oxford, OX1 1NJ. They will also be invited to the launch of Photo Oxford at the Weston Library on Thursday 7th September. Travel not included. Winning images will be printed and exhibited at Photo Oxford’s expense. The open discussion with Martin Parr will be held at lunchtime on September 7th at The Old Bank Hotel, Oxford, OX1 4BJ. The in-person or online prize portfolio review will be an hour long consultation with a senior member of the Alamy content team.
Every photo submitted will be available for the crowd to rate once the submissions period has ended. In this contest, the entries are hidden until the rating period begins.
Some contests on Photocrowd also have a judge. After the submission period closes the judge chooses their favourite images and writes some image reviews. The crowd and judge results will be announced on the same day.
