This image grew on me after seeing it a few times, to the extent that I felt it warranted a top ten place. I love the light and composition, the darkness elements are fulfilled by her melancholy mood as well as the loss of features in shadow. I do find the back ground a little distracting probably as I am curious as to know what it is. Beautifully lit portrait well done.
It is always nice when an image has a bit of a story behind it and to know who it is in the image albeit it someone's best friend. I like the darkness here, it makes me think of the 70's in the style of the image and to some degree the clothes and glasses of the woman. I would have liked to see the image incorporate the legs but then again it makes for an interesting crop. Nice work.
The only thing missing from this is the VOGUE logo, its just screams Vogue to me. That of course is not the reason why I love this piece of art, it works for me on so many levels. The lighting is simple gorgeous as it emphasises the blond adonises hair and body. At the same time the darkness of the image hides the face to a degree leaving a sense of mystery. I find myself asking if the face is as beautiful as the body? There is a great depth to this image which allows you to explore the shadows trying to make out the details of the background in hope to add to the images story. Quality work - Bravo!

This is a lovely well balanced and edited portrait. Dark enough to meet the brief and light enough to give enough detail. Personally I look at this and ask many questions for example why is the beard so smart and tidy yet the hair is ruffled? I think the image draws you in so that you want to know more. I think the slight use of negative space to the left invites you to guess what he is focused on and draws you away from a classic portrait crop. Delightful portrait well done.
Camera club photoshoot glory. I love the fact that this is a real image warts and all, not that the model has warts but a real skin texture which lends an honesty to the image. The features of the model are gorgeous and the use of light really emphasises the mouth which is really dominant in this portrait. Really great work well done.
I do love these real life captures which you simply cannot date. You could be mistaken to think this was the 1950's as the swim costume could well be the only clue here. With regards to the brief I felt that on my first view I examined the evidence to rule out that she wasnt dead and merely just floating with her eyes shut. That gave me a feeling of foreboding which added the dark element for me. Great Image well done.

The brief for this is simple - a portrait which can be a full body shot or a close crop of a human face. Dark can be interpreted as in low light or dark as in reflecting the mood or character of the person/persons in the shot. Everyone can have a go with this so get creative! People only no pets please.
