There is so much feeling in this photo! I love a photo that tells a story. Combine it with great clarity, composition, and an emotional component and that's what I see here. I love where the dog is situated along the road waiting in the snow; it emanates a feeling of longing, as though the dog is watching for his mom and dad to get home maybe? Truly a well deserved first place!

I don't know what this hound is looking at, but I have a feeling it is about to be caught! Great action pose, and wonderful detail in eye, fur, and tree stump set off by the diffused background. In this black and white all of the details are magnificent.

There is so much in this image that kept me coming back again and again!

First, the totally crisp image of the eye, nose, tongue, and teeth make me stop and look. Then the position of the tongue, the drop of saliva, the eye looking straight up make me stay and come back. VERY unusual and interesting shot. Well done!

Lovely composition, with the snow accenting the dog and contrasting against the bokeh behind. It's soft and sweet, with a tinge of melancholy. Clarity is fabulous, with both the dog's nose and eyes in focus. I sat and looked at this for a long time, watching snow falling on this dog in his later years. Poetic. Wonderful photo.

Missy has simply stolen my heart! What a look of sheer joy on her face. Everything is so white, and yet it's so clear that it doesn't threaten to be overexposed. From her ears, eyes, nose, and paws in mid-run to the crisp snow at her feet. Beautiful girl. Beautiful shot. Nice job.

Meet the judge

I really love everything about this photo. Diesel laying with his head between his paws, his look says he's seen and heard a lot in his day. I love him and I wish I could scratch behind his ears! Great composition, love the texture and that there is great focus from the nose to the ears. A frameable piece of art.

A very interesting moment frozen in time. I love this photo. The look on Boo's face...raised eyebrows, not necessarily fear, maybe curiosity tinged with a good dose of "what have I gotten myself into?" Such clear focus with the bee hovering in front of Boo. A+ for clarity and storytelling...now we all want to know what happened after Boo's encounter!

Okay, first I have to say they are adorable! They look so chill and relaxed. Such joyful pups! They look great on the white background, but what I love most is your composition: so sweet and original! There were some really amazing photos, but this particular one stood out for me. Great job!

Soft and detailed at the same time, and a different profile view with eyes hidden makes it more interesting. Artistic and daring; not many photographers would do a portrait and not show those "windows to the soul." It works. And honey is beautiful!

The amount of detail captured in the tree, the animal's paws, ears and face, make me want to keep looking at and coming back to this one. So much texture and clarity, all the way down to Freya's nails. Well shot!

Very artsy feeling! The head, front paw, and sidewalk create a lot of interesting textures that make me want to keep looking. The clarity of the head and paw are great, all the way down to seeing the photographer in the puppy's iris. Well shot.

This image filled my screen with crystal clear eyes, fur, nose, chin hair. I look at every photo on a 50 inch monitor, so any time I can see the photographer in their eyes you have my attention. And it doesn't detract one iota from Gus' soulful gaze. Lovely portrait.

Every detail in this photo adds character to the portrait. It has storytelling. Those eyes just carry so much emotion. The softness of the coat in contrast to the splintered wood behind. So many different shades of black and white. A lovely portrait.. I wish I had more than just 10 place awards :)

This is soft and sweet, and makes me wonder what Teddy is thinking about. The composition is lovely and I like that Teddy isn't in the middle of the photo, but instead just a little off center. The bokeh is nice and helps to put him right up front with a shallow depth of field. Very pretty. Nice Job
