Multiple Exposures

Open Judging Results
Brief

Making multiple exposures on the same piece of film was a fun pursuit in the pre-digital era, and came with a large element of surprise when the end result was revealed. These ghostly images weren’t always by intention though. A roll of film not correctly advanced could create a multiple exposure by accident. Producing multiple exposures with your digital camera can still be done in-camera, as some cameras and phones have a multiple exposure mode. You can also experiment with long exposures in low light using a handheld flash to create overlapping exposures. Or you might choose to create a multiple exposure image in post processing, playing with layers to overlay images on each other. Many tutorials are available online for how to master that skill.

This Premium Contest is worth 3x the standard points towards your Leaderboard ranking. It’s Expert-judged, but with no Crowd vote. Find out more about ranking points here. Our Experts are some of the world’s finest photographers, who select the best images, and provide valuable feedback to help you improve.
