This image really captures the beauty and essence of Easter for me. The colours and tones of the image have been perfectly captured and tastefully edited. The strongest element of this image, however, is the clarity and sharpness of the central duckling. Although a relatively straightforward and simple composition, which is by no means a bad thing, it completely draws my eye to the centre of the frame. So for those combined reasons, this is my winning image for the Easter competition.
This is so very close to the Top 10. I love the light bokeh in the background, and the simplicity of a single flower and stem. The only issue for me is that the flower doesn’t pop out from the background enough. It needs a little more contrast and possibly the highlights being increased, especially the white petals.
I love the feelings that this image conjures up, thinking of those glorious summer evenings just around the corner. I think it would have benefitted from being shot much lower to the ground - almost on the floor - and placing the whole tree against the skyline rather than what appears to be a hedgerow.
Although I completely love the chocolate element of Easter, Sergey has reminded us of the significance of Easter within Christianity. An extremely powerful image with a very clean and simple composition. The contrast of the lights in the darkness of the steps leads the eye towards the cross, which is beautifully lit. The lines and symmetry of this frame are very striking and well executed. The slight warmth in the background of the image provides a nice balance to the overall mood of the shot.
We couldn’t have an Easter image competition without a rabbit, could we?! I love this shot - the composition is excellent and the leaves in the foreground not only provide a lovely hit of colour, but also give the image some depth. The tones of the background as well as the rabbit are also excellent and tastefully edited.
Any dog owners out there will be dumbfounded by this shot. I know from experience that getting a dog to stay still whilst you take a picture is nigh on impossible, let alone with bunny rabbit ears and a basket full of coloured eggs next to them! The humour element of this shot aside, it is a very well balanced and composed image. The stare of the dog is very well focused, with a lovely depth of field, and I was particularly drawn to the tones and soft vignette within the image.
This image just makes me smile - it's full of fun - and I love the tones and soft background. My only critique, and the only reason it didn’t make the Top 10, is the focus point. The egg on the right either needs to be as in focus as the one on the left, or dropped further back into the frame so it's softer like the background.
I can easily see why this image has been so popular in the live crowd vote, it has a real energy and life to it. From a technical point of view it's been expertly captured - to freeze a fleeting moment like this takes great patience and skill, not to mention a steady hand. I also love the reflection in the water, creating brilliant symmetry across the frame. With a soft background and some water droplets thrown up for good measure this all makes for a brilliant image.
There have been plenty of excellent floral submissions to this competition, but this one makes the Top 10 purely for its perspective. I love photographers who try to shoot things away from the normal and obvious - giving the viewer a different perspective of a subject - and this certainly achieves that.
