I am a sucker for symmetry in pictures and this supplies that handsomely. The road leads us nicely up the picture to the building at the far end. I note the photographer said a technical challenge was the rain but like a lot of such pictures the fact that it has been raining helps the impact of the wet cobblestones. I also like the softness in the editing and the pastel shades of the sky at what appears to be the end of the day.
I love the atmosphere created of a wet night in London in this picture. The line of telephone boxes takes our eyes up the street into the gloom. I appreciate that the picture colour tones are soft as it may have been tempting to make the telephone boxes more vibrant. Being so bleak a night the light from the boxes gives a sense of warmth.
A rather gloomy but very atmospheric picture with very subtle lour tone. It gives the feeling of not really wanting to be there and wonder if the photographer felt the same. One wonders what sinister figure may come walking towards us. I think the highlights and exposure could have been brought up more giving a less dark picture.
This is almost two pictures within one. I keep seeing the kerbstone as a cliff face with the ocean (a puddle) at it's foot. I am impressed that the photographer got down so low to get the shot and everything seems in sharp focus. The fact that so little of the background buildings can be seen with the focus on the kerb and puddle impressed me.
A very atmospheric picture helped by the fact that it is in black and white. It is an image that could easily have been created in the 1930s or even earlier. I possibly would have lightened the image a little and let us see more of the lamp post on the left but as with all such comments that is a purely personal point of view.
A deceptively simple picture taken on a cold winter's day but I feel there has been a lot of thought gone into the creation of the image. The fact that 2two thirds of the picture shows only snow on the road is effective as are the lines created by the traffic and which lead us up the road towards the buildings. The colour tones in the edit are clever and all in all there is a sense of the cold and bleakness of winter. I think I personally would have brightened up the image slightly but that is purely a personal thought.
There are echoes of times past in this picture even though the bike and cars are of the modern period. Yes it might have been better to have had no cars in the image but how many times do we find streets devoid of traffic. I like the position of the bike and the way we can feel as if we are walking up that slushy and slippery pavement. The colour tones are also good.

A photograph full of lines through the shadows and the buildings. I feel the photographer chose his time of day and weather well to get the image. The cool colour palette helps the atmosphere of the picture. The addition of what appears to be the reflection of a tree on the right could be a metaphor for what the concrete jungle is missing. Perhaps I am being too clever for my own good lol.

This contest should show streets in villages, towns or cities that are devoid of any people. I am looking for streets without people that convey an atmosphere through the time of day or the weather conditions, etc. The focus should be on the street with buildings and possibly vehicles, but should not focus on any one building or vehicle.
