The expense and difficulty of these images meant that these snapshots were often treasured possessions – a moment of familial togetherness passed down through the generations. Shooting family portraits is just as popular today, and requires many of the same skills. Working with a large group of people can be challenging, so it's important to be patient and assertive enough to compose everyone in the right way. The results will speak for themselves.
