Famous Views

January 2022

Fantastic crisp lines in this image! It's becoming a famous view alright, but not to the extent that it's over-photographed, so this still feels fresh and bold.. Alas I didn't make it here when I visited Namibia so I'll add it to the list for next time. Congratulations on 2nd place!

Stunner of a shot! The Angel of the North is such a photographed monument but you've managed to bring something different to the table, which I feel met the brief perfectly. When a view is heavily photographed, there are three main options: (1) find a unique angle that nobody has found; (2) add a human element creatively; or (3) be patient and wait for beautiful light conditions – the last of which you've demonstrated here. Congratulations on winning 1st place!

This is a lovely shot of an extremely famous view but with the added visual interest of a human element plus much rougher waters than I can remember seeing juxtaposed with the Golden Gate Bridge. Congratulations on winning third place!

**This contest is open to photographers ranked below 1000 in this week’s Leaderboard.** If you’ve ever found yourself standing in front of the Taj Mahal; looking up the Champs Elysees at the Arc de Triomphe; or looking out across the Grand Canyon, you may have had a strong sense of deja vu. More than ever before, the combination of cheap travel, ubiquitous digital cameras, and the internet has meant that we’ve seen these views and many more hundreds or thousands of time before we’ve ever visited them ourselves. You may have stood in the most obvious and used spot for shooting from, or you may have found an unfamiliar viewpoint.
