Farm Animals

May 2024

I absolutely love this shot, a simple capture with so much energy and life. The rustic ladder slices through the image, and I've always loved shots that incorporate angles and leading lines to guide the viewer's eyes across the scene. The selection of this frame was ideal for capturing the action of the hen, her foot and wing posed perfectly. This is a lovely, bright image that captures the spirit of this competition perfectly.

This is such a phenomenal composition and a treat to view with so many shapes, lines, textures and so much depth to enjoy. I think it captures the idealized essence of farmland well nestled in gentle rolling hills and clean grass. The subject is also posed perfectly against the fencing, slightly off center encouraging the viewer's eyes to roam around the image. I especially love the details of the distant barn and the wispy faded clouds. I absolutely love the atmosphere of this scene and I think you did a wonderful job capturing the subject and environment beautifully.

To me, this image has it all, the low angle emphasizing the character of the subject bowed over the setting sun. The environment, though obscured by shadows, gleams in the glow of the evening, the architecture of the scene contrasting greatly against the softer background of the sea and distant islands. This shot is a great representation of the relationship between man and livestock across the world and the execution of the image is absolutely perfect.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 1 and 250 in this week’s Leaderboard.** Man owes much to the animals that have been farmed by us over the millennia. Celebrating these varied creatures through the images that will be entered into this contest is bittersweet, as so many do not live the happy lives that will be portrayed here. Let’s call this contest aspirational, as we seek to show the beauty and personality of the animals we farm, and how it is possible for them to be respected and live good lives, whilst also contributing to our wellbeing.
