This image certainly exhibits some truly unique qualities. Not only is the depth of field and clarity of focus attained truly amazing, but there is also a vibrancy in color that is just astounding. I also really like the balance of the composition in this photo, and the blue reflectance that can be seen in some of the water droplets. There are nuances of detail to be discovered in every segment, from the magnification of the water droplets, to the different hues of blue. Truly an amazing capture, well worth the 3 AM start!

I explained in my review for the 1st place photo that I broke my criteria for judging these entries down into three general categories; depth of field, clarity of focus, and originality in color and composition. This image exhibits a good depth of field, although the focus is more soft, giving it almost the look of a painting. While the color pallet is not the most vibrant, there is an elegance to the warmer color temperature. What I found truly unique about this image is the composition. It is well balanced, with some subtle leading lines that draw your attention to the center. Overall, a very beautiful image.

This image has a depth of field and clarity of focus that are truly amazing. Ants are not easy subjects to photograph, as they really do not sit still for very long. There are not many details provided with this photo. I would love to know a little bit more of the back story, and camera settings that were employed in this capture. Overall, a very interesting shot that very much reminds of the movie, "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids"

There are so many things that I absolutely love about this capture that it is hard to decide where to begin. The color pallet is beautifully vibrant, the depth of field and clarity of focus are amazing, and it is definitely unique. Although it is a mushroom, the angle and lighting really make it appear as a sort of bioluminescent, tree shaped organism. It is a bit reminiscent of the imagery employed by James Cameron in, "Avatar".

THIS CONTEST IS ONLY FOR MACRO IMAGES THAT HAVE BEEN CREATED USING THE FOCUS STACKING TECHNIQUE. Focus stacking is a creative technique used to maximize depth of field in situations where total clarity may be difficult. Macro photography is the perfect playground for focus stacking as getting the desired depth of field to best highlight your subject can prove an elusive endeavor due to various limitations. For this contest, I would like to see your best macro photos of any subject where you used focus stacking to produce your final image. Entries may be in colour, monochrome, or any creative combination of the two.

I can't say exactly why, but I truly love this image! Although the depth of field, and clarity of focus are not as sharp and attuned as some of the other submissions, it just has a vibrance that I absolutely enjoy. This is definitely a very unique capture, worthy of taking a place in the top 10.
