Great contest!

I really loved the contrast of the warm toned ammonite against the cold, grey stone. This photo came so close to my top ten, only thing that held it back was the that the whole ammonite didn't seem quite in focus, whilst some of the rocks were, which distracted the eye slightly, but otherwise I absolutely loved the composition and how you captured a fossil in all its natural beauty.

From the moment I saw this image I just couldn't stop looking at it. It is taken at such a great angle, like standing on the top of a volcano and peeping over inside. The spiral just keeps leading your eye back to the middle, it sucks you in. I love the lighting, which highlights the details, and how the foreground is out of focus but the areas where your eyes are led to are perfectly in focus. The tone is a fantastic choice too, it shows age but is warm, not cold, so it's pleasing to keep looking at. When I think fossils, this sums up exactly what comes to mind. Great photo.

I found this image both threatening and amusing at the same time. The great lighting on the skeleton highlights its threatening expression as he lunges for the lady with a real sense of being alive, but at the same time she just casually stands in the background, not paying him any attention. Great story.

The tone and mood of this shot are fantastic. I really liked how you captured the fossil as it was found. Sepia was a great choice for the image as it freed it from any distractions so your eye is drawn to the fossil in the foreground and then the cliff line leads your eye off into the distance.
