Oh nooooo. Subject on the left has his eyes closed. With open eyes this would have definitely been a commended shot. This is an instance for snapping a few frames & doing a face swap in photoshop. Personally, I always continuously shoot at least 2-3 images with groups because you can bet your bottom dollar someone's gonna blink on the money shot! Otherwise it's super great & nice story about a family out in nature.

Absolutely beautiful. I think pretty much everyone would love to have a portrait like this of their child, their grandchildren & even themselves from they were a child to pass down through generations as part of a legacy box. These portraits are priceless. The lighting used makes the portrait favourable for the viewer. Excellent posing skills & expression is lovely. A contemporary take on a traditional portrait. Super congratulations on the winning entry.

Lovely shot! Excellent outfits & colour palette. It's pleasing to the eye how the colour of the brickwork matches the bottoms on the gentlemen. Nice body positions. Three key aspects meant that this shot didn't make top 10:

  1. I felt the facial expressions & poses vs the setting meant I wasn't sure what the story line was. The subjects look like they are posing for a portrait (which of course they are) but vs the setting it feels like they are out in the battle field hiding or waiting.
  2. Gent on the right - right arm positioning not quite strong enough & felt the body stance was more aligned to current time period where as the imaging is portraying to a time in past history.
  3. The shaft of light on the flooring is distracting from the subjects. Overall a fantastic effort & we're looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Fabulous shot!! These are technically quite challenging to 100% nail with moving subjects at this speed. I would have liked to see a slightly sharper profile on the rider with potentially wider or more centralised framing. Excellent effort though! Please do submit a second attempt.

A magical tale of children being children. Really beautifully executed & a wonderful piece to show in a family home. Would be nice to have a little more editing to remove a few distracting twigs & the curved tree root in the lower right of the frame. Easily fixed. I love the positioning of each child in the frame & all three have nice expressions. The chap on the bike reminds us of that time we were learning to ride.

Very nice - would have liked to have seen the rest of his feet & highlight toned down on his left knee. Could be a little tidier on the background in places. Which is tricky at the best of times unless it's a staged shot. Very nice entry overall.

Some lovely aspects of this image. Subjects expression is excellent & focus is sharp. The colour toning is super nice & well aligned for the story. There's a few aspects which could be tidied up - Photoshop person sitting in the background who is distracting & doesn't fit stylistically with the subject. There's a few highlighted patches around the subject's feet which again are distracting from the subject. I also feel that the smoke blending into the people walking in the background isn't ideal. Overall the bones of the shot are there & the style is great. These documentary type shots can be tricky to tick all the boxes as we're not blessed with perfect backgrounds in many situations. Well done. Like it. More please.

Lovely! nice lighting & edit. Good tones of b/w & like the flash of light on the stiletto. Good expression & I like all the triangles. I'd remove the highlight wall behind & replace with the wall to put more emphasis on the subject. But really super nice!

Well executed image from a technical & lighting perspective. Well done! There is a certain quality about this shot which feels a bit constructed in a confected way. It's a fine art shot which feels detailed but also has character shining through. Small things to consider - would a bit more space in the frame above have felt better? Do the strewn cushions fit with such a neat & tidy set & subject? What story are you telling as the photographer? Could the eyes be sharper? Very organised shot with great lighting, please do show us more of your work progressing.

This could easily have been a top 10 image with a few tweaks. I love the styling! The colours have been will thought out & there's a nice arrangement on the flowers. The main reason this image didn't score higher is the framing. Too much negative space on the right vs the cutting off the tub on the left. It feels like it's not quite sitting right. I can see the ledge on the left may have posed an issue for a wider frame. Could this image have been shot from the left or above? Editing wise - personally I'd be tempted to Photoshop the blue hair strands to black for this image to ensure the colour palette remains streamlined. There's a leaf on the ledge which is alone & would be nice to tidy the rim of the bath tub. Would look lovely in a painterly effect, but of course that's artistic preference. Super lovely! Would love to see more of your work.

Love this as it's a simple idea done very well. Sometimes the simplest things prove challenging to do but in this case you've nailed it. ...ps not sure if cutting off the toes was on purpose but for me, I feel like this is would be an image better having them in :) Great angles! Strong documentary style here.

The technicals are there & looking great. Just a few tiny tweaks in the shooting process could really improve this image. Giving the dress more space on the left would've been great. Also, the subject looks quite nervous - almost wringing her hands - teaching the subject to 'hold an acorn' would work well for this style of image. Also photoshopping out the crease on the front of the dress would be good ;) Super nice work! Happy shooting in the future. & let us know how you get on.

A massively adventurous image & overall very well executed. It has an exceptionally clean feeling about it - the background & flow are flawless which suits this style very well. This image appears to me to have been posed & shot as a whole as opposed to being shot individually & Photoshopped. Neither way is easy & perhaps this method is the trickier of the two. The area I feel needs a bit of improvement is the lighting. It seems that there is one light from right. The light is uneven throughout all subjects with more shadow the top, the left & the seated subject's faces. Ideally in a commercial shot such as this, the feel of the image is more appealing with each subject receiving a similar amount of light. Probably need to add a couple or may be able to evenly light with one huge powerful light from the front. Really great image & big well done

Very nicely shot - can tell it's Canon 70-200. Decent framing - like the people in the background. Good focus. Lovely b/w toning. The only thing is I'd choose a more entertaining subject. There's a famous phrase in photography (can't remember off the top of my head who said it) but it goes like this 'if you want to be a better photographer stand in front of more interesting things'. Your technicals are great!

From top to toe, the full length portrait is a genre of portrait photography that often places more emphasis on the setting of the portrait, and the clothing being worn. It requires careful placing of the subjects in the frame, and the pose of the subject is also critical.

Fantastic image!! Know how challenging it is to shoot these at gigs & get a great expression with on a lead. I'd be tempted to tweak the crop & take it in at the bottom & right to crop out the messy leads & put more focus on the subject. We've lost his right foot in the gear as it is anyway. Potentially photoshop out the 2nd singer to make it really clean. Super great image - huge well done!

Excellent positioning of the dancer & the skirt framing the entire right hand side of the dancer.. The flick at the bottom of the dress is amazing - it balances & frames this image very nicely. The two aspects (one big & one small) unfortunately prevented a higher score. Big: the lighting. The light is slightly too far to the side & means the dancer has shadows across the face & arms. Would've liked to have seen more light on the front with this pose which would also have cast fewer large shadows on areas of the skirt. Small: Left hand is looking slightly claw like. This is a highly technical type of image with so many tiny details contributing to a flawless image & you have the vast majority right. Dancer's facial expression is lovely!
