I’m not accustomed to seeing fungus in snow, so this image was a fun surprise! Great job capturing the shelf fungus while it’s holding something. I like the low depth of field you’ve used to isolate the fungus here and blur the forest in the background; the muted color palette also adds a nice touch and helps create a quiet, peaceful scene. Great job!

**This contest is open to photographers ranked 1000+ in this week’s Leaderboard.** In large parts of the world now is a great time to get out and look for fungi. Like a lot of nature’s smaller wonders, it’s only when you start really looking for them, that you start really finding them. And wow, how exciting to see a new kind of fungus in full fruiting bloom, hoping for a positive identification, and of course getting flat on the ground and taking some great shots of it. Your shots can be fungi in the wild, in your foraging basket, or on a plate with a knife and fork poised ready for action, it’s entirely up to you!
