This is a well composed image with the tram tracks leading you to the couple holding hands as they walk along the pavement. Even though they are not in focus, I think they are the visual anchor point for the image with their darker colours highlighted by the pale wall behind them. The fact that the couple are captured mid-stride adds a dynamism to the image. The black and white conversion has also been carried out very well with strong contrasts and a good range of tones.
Congratulations on your placing in this competition.
Thanks for entering my Ground Level Viewpoint competition. Having set the brief as a non-standard view, I created a rod for my own back trying to choose the winner from the great variety of strong images that were entered in the competition.
This is a well composed image with the name plaques, dark rivets, railings, lamp posts and benches all leading your eye to the shelter at the top. The gentle curves of the wooden planks created by the fisheye lens also provide horizontal guides for your eye to travel from left to right. The people fishing at the end of the pier and sitting on the benches provide yet more interest for the eye. The black and white conversion has also been carried out very well with strong contrasts and a good range of tones. Super image - well done on your first place.

This is a super composition - the black background means that all the focus is on the bat and its reflection in the water. These creatures fly at speed so I applaud your skill in capturing the bat head on with its wings forming the dynamic V shape.
I did see the image on the entry order screen before judging began so I know you chose a square crop with plenty of space around the subject - this adds to the quality of the composition for me. However, a point to note is that the judging screen background in Photocrowd is black which means that during judging, it isn't possible to see where the image ends and the background begins. A single pixel white border is therefore a useful judging aid for compositions with a blackground background.
Congratulations on your second place for this wonderful image.

I really like the look you've captured on Shelby's face - waiting patiently for someone to come and play! The depth of field you've chosen works well with the eye being the centre of focus and there is nice detail in the fur around that area. The black and white conversion has also been carried out very well with strong contrasts and a good range of tones.
Congratulations on your placing in this competition.

I like the way that you have composed this cityscape on a bit of a slant with the lines of cobbles and rows of windows leading your eye into the image and towards the steeple reaching into the night sky. The complementary colours of the violet sky and the golden tones of the cobbles and buildings are pleasing to the eye. The starburst effect on the street lights also adds to the overall appeal of the image.
The long exposure used would have made any passersby invisible but I'm glad there aren't any people in the image as I think they would have distracted from the strong architectural features of the composition.
Congratulations on your placing in this competition.

I have seen photos of this Ash tree and limestone pavement near Malham before, but I think you have created a great image with your composition. The leading lines of the pavement direct your eyes nicely to the tree. The delicate naked winter branches highlighted by the break in the clouds provide a pleasing contrast to the rugged rocks.

The shallow depth of field and the placing on a vertical third leads your eye straight to the subject in this sweet composition. The mouse is nicely in focus with plenty of detail visible in it's face, whiskers, fur and even the tiny claws. I can see there are some seeds to the right of the image, which I guess would have increased the likelyhood of the mouse coming into the scene but I wonder how long you had to wait before it appeared! Well done for your patience and congratulations on 3rd place.

The sea provides such endless photographic options. The image you've created using a slow shutter speed really captures the weight of the water in the waves as they crash on the shoreline. The line of white spray emphasizes the rock which is critical as a place for your eye to rest on in the image. Your image title is also well chosen as it informs the viewer of exactly where you, the photographer, are in relation to your subject.

At first glance a very simple composition, but there is a lot to commend it. There is plenty of detail in the clouds and their colours and structure faintly echo those from the pebbles on the beach. The aperture that you've used and the focus point you've chosen mean that the out of focus boat doesn't overpower the image, but there is still enough detail in it to show its dilapidated state. The sliver of brighter sky just on the beach horizon nicely highlights the boat.
Congratulations on your placing in this competition.

Most photos that we take are shot with the camera at eye-level while we are standing, sitting or kneeling down. However, for this contest I would like to see your photographs taken with the camera at ground level. The subject can be anything you like and the photographs can be in colour or black and white.
