This incredible portrait caught my eye the moment I saw it. The choice of subject and his expression, his clothing, and even his cigar, all work together in making this portrait one to remember. But it's the balanced, neutral colour palette that brings it all together in a visually harmonious, appealing way. Every single tone in the image works well with the next. And the eye knows it.
The image's pin-sharpness beautifully enhances textures, especially on the subject's face, adding a welcome note of realism. Last but not least, the reflections in the subject's eyes tell a story, and connect with the viewer in a way that further draws them in.
This striking, beautifully executed portrait is one I will remember for some time to come.

This image, with its different perspective, beautifully stands out from all the rest. It's a portrait with flair. Even if we can't see the artist's face, we certainly get a taste of her essence - from her quirky personality to her artistic skills.
Great composition is essential in every image, but especially one of this kind, where it's all about lines and shapes, no faces to distract. And great composition is what we're getting. The subject is positioned in the frame following the rule of thirds, and the many lines in the shot seem to all beautifully and neatly convey towards the corners of the frame.
This is an eye-catching, neat and certainly well though-out image that deserves recognition.

This drone view gifts us with an exciting mix of shapes and textures, resulting in a unique image that stands apart from the rest.
The more you look, the more lines you spot - those between the fish crates, those of the path that cuts between them, and the neat one unknowingly made by the workers that, pleasingly, cuts diagonally across the frame. It's a puzzle full of details and geometry that it's hard to stop looking at.
As the photographer rightly points out in their description, it's a meaningful capture too, highlighting the hard work of those involved in bringing the food we so often take for granted to our table.
This is a great image that thoroughly deserves its place in the top 10.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 1 and 250 in this week’s Leaderboard.** It’s all about ‘shaped head coverings’ (Oxford English Dictionary) in this week’s ranked contests, otherwise known as hats. Maybe you’ve captured the exotic creations of a milliner, snapped a policeman in his helmet, or been looking for hankie hats on the beach for your homage to Martin Parr.
