This is such a beautiful photograph, which fits the brief fabulously. You have achieved all the tones from white to black in a spot-on exposure, but the star of the show is the lady in the straw hat and grubby apron smoking a pipe. What a character! To one side of her is the blackleaded firegrate with a roaring fire, to the other is the white light streaming through the window, which all balances the composition. Thank you for entering my Heritage photo contest, and I hope you enjoy perusing all the brilliant images submitted. This one for me is the winner. It is a glorious moment in time captured. The image is uncluttered, concise, minimal, but immediately you know the story, and it shouts "Heritage". The two pretty girls, strongly evoke impressions of the 1940s as they sing their song head to head before a retro microphone. Their smiling eyes also tell how much they enjoy what they do. It's lovely, and it makes me smile every time I look at it. Well done.
A good number of photos of Steam railways have been entered in this competition, but this one in particular fits the brief perfectly. The atmosphere of smoke and steam summons up for me memories of my trainspotting days. The earthy grittiness, the harsh rasps of the breathing locomotive, even the smell of steam cylinder oil, are all expressed in this image. Thank you for entering my Heritage photo contest, and I hope you enjoy perusing all the brilliant images submitted.

This faded sepia-toned image perfectly invokes a sense of days gone by. The treatment of the photo has been beautifully handled to mimic photographs of the past. Well done. The picture was taken in my own neck of the woods, at a place I know well, which I freely admit might be another reason I enjoy the image so much. So thank you for entering my Heritage photo contest, and I hope you enjoy perusing the other brilliant images submitted.

Thank you for entering my Heritage photo contest, and I hope you enjoy perusing all the brilliant images submitted. This image is certainly evocative of our motor-racing heritage, enhanced by the use of vignetting. It reminds me of old photos I have seen taken at Le Mans etc. It takes a slightly different approach to heritage which appeals to me, so a have no hesitation in including it in my top ten.

Thank you for entering my Heritage photo contest, and I hope you enjoy perusing the other brilliant images submitted. This photo illustrates a different approach to heritage, but is one that works very well. The lovely young woman in stylish period dress leaving a grand house is beautifully done. It is a simple shot, a classic composition, yet it gives all the information we need. Well done.
Thank you for entering my Heritage photo contest, and I hope you enjoy the other brilliant images submitted. I love this sort of photograph, and this one is particularly well done. With all the atmosphere and paraphernalia of old gramophones and records in evidence, it is highly evocative of our heritage. The young man in the picture, dressed in the style of the period, enhances the authenticity with his attentive, compliant gaze. The photo is rendered more graphic because the horizontal lines are truly horizontal and the verticals vertical, and the vignette adds to the overall effect. A lovely image.
Thank you for entering my Heritage photo contest, and I hope you enjoy perusing all the brilliant images submitted. I love this photograph. It strongly evokes impressions of the Land Girls in WWII, and is exactly the kind of image I hoped would populate this contest. The attitudes of the characters are perfect and it all looks so natural, and reminiscent of trips out into the country in my childhood.. Expert manipulation of tones (I suspect HDR) has created a soft, dreamlike quality that suits the subject perfectly.
Thank you for entering my Heritage photo contest, and I hope you enjoy perusing the other brilliant images submitted. This wonderful photo could hardly escape a commendation. Careful, painstaking set-up and the co-operation of the characters have ensured an exceptional result. Beautifully composed and lit, with shadow detail in the wheels of the loco adding to the interest.
Thank you for entering my Heritage photo contest, and I hope you enjoy perusing all the brilliant images submitted. Another photo, very similar to this one, has been entered into this contest, apparently taken at about the same time; and I can hardly commend one without commending the other. Both fit the brief perfectly, invoking railway heritage, and both illustrate lovely aerial perspective in a well-composed and well-executed photograph. Both impart atmosphere, the hiss of steam, the smell of oil, human activity, the magnificent engineering of the locomotive. I admire them both equally.
Thank you for entering my Heritage photo contest, and I hope you enjoy perusing the other brilliant images submitted. Another period shop interior such as we find at living museums. Rich tones, but a soft focus feel add to the ambiance, and the interaction between the characters looks utterly convincing. I am not normally a fan of vignetting, but it works in a photo like this; and yet I would love to see more detail at the outer edges - the till, the bottom contents of the glass counter, the top shelf, for instance, for they must be full of interest.

Thank you for entering my Heritage photo contest, and I hope you enjoy perusing all the brilliant images submitted. This photo struck me as soon as I saw it. The horse and carriage, as well as the old castle, certainly call to mind days of yore. Taken looking up, you have given us a sky with blurred clouds that are incongruous with the sharpness of the main subject, but this adds to the intrigue. One thing is not evocative of past days however: the sunglasses worn by the passenger! But let's forgive that.
Thank you for entering my Heritage photo contest, and I hope you enjoy the other brilliant images submitted. I commend this photo because the author has gone to some lengths to create an authentic-looking period photograph of his/her own. All the elements are right, the car, the girl's appearance, the composition, the desaturated colours that give it a sense of being a faded print. I also applaud the perfectly straight horizon. Nice work.
Thank you for entering my Heritage photo contest, and I hope you enjoy perusing all the brilliant images submitted. There have been many steam railway images entered, most of which are worthy of commendation, but this one stood out as being different, yet still eliciting the impression of heritage. The composition, and technicalities in achieving a balance between the highlights and shadows have been beautifully handled.
