High Contrast Black and White

As soon as I saw this photo, I knew it would be in my top ten. It embodies what high contrast photography is all about. Your shot has come out beautifully; it is very minimalistic, to the point where I didn’t realise what it was for a few seconds. Black and white is a brilliant choice for this shot, as it truly allows the viewer to enjoy the shape and composition of the shot. This is a very eye-catching photograph that has been masterfully handled. I was confused for a few moments as to what I was looking at, as the photograph has been composed and processed so that it has an abstract aspect to it. The composition is beautifully done, creating this dramatic photograph that, for me, really stood out. Congratulations on finishing in my top three!

Firstly, thank you for entering your beautiful photograph into my competition. It perfectly adheres to the brief. It truly displays the stark beauty of nature, and the clarity and sharpness that you have managed to retain in your image is outstanding. The composition is beautiful; I like the fact that you have positioned the leaf slightly off-centre but with the top pointing in towards the centre of the frame to balance out of the photograph.

This is another eye-catching nature shot, and it is one of my favourites entered into the competition. You have really captured the butterfly in all of its magnificence here. This is a very abstract interpretation of the brief, and has been pulled off very well. The swirling motion that surrounds the person in the centre almost creates an optical illusion, and helps to draw the viewers eye in. The composition and pose of the model has been perfectly executed, and I like the fact that you have kept their hands perfectly in focus. I like the choice of black and white for this shot, as it allows the viewer to appreciate the shapes and other aspects of the photo without the distraction of colour. I love this unique interpretation of the brief. This is an unusual shot of a zebra, as most photographers would have been keen to get the head in the shot. However, in my opinion this way of displaying the zebra is a much more effective interpretation of this animal. The lighting in this photograph is beautiful; I love the way it is coming from above and the stripes seem to fade from white to grey/black as they go down. The composition is also spot-on, with the zebra adhering to the rule of thirds and only taking up about a third of the bottom of the frame. Overall, such a beautiful photograph and one to be truly proud of. Thank you for entering my competition and congratulations on finishing in first place!
