Historic Steam Railways

There were many, many photos entered of running steam locomotives, and this one caught my eye repeatedly. The engine is steaming beautifully through an autumn landscape, and the photographer has captured it almost head on with the rest of the train in a steam cloud. The loco is well positioned and the colors are beautiful. Congratulations on a Top 10 in Historical Steam Railways!

This is a wonderful photo, capturing the classic locomotive surrounded by steam on a cold winter night. The front of the engine is pin sharp, while the grain from the high ISO adds to the night atmosphere. Well exposed and captured. Congratulations on a Top 10 in Historical Steam Railways!

This is a wonderful photo of an historical freight train steaming along. The workers using manual tools add to the historic scene, as they stop and waive at the engine driver. This is a beautiful composition on the curving tracks and a step back in time. Congratulations on a Top 10 in Historical Steam Railways!

There were a number of wonderful photos of timeline re-enactment events and I loved them all, which made it difficult to judge. This particular one shows an every day scene of the basics - cleaning, with an engine driver looking on. The photographer took great care in this recreation, both in the capture of the scene, as well as in post. Congratulations on a Top 10 in Historical Steam Railways!

This wonderful photo completely evokes historical railways. Besides the three beautifully preserved locomotives, there are workers steaming up two of them, all in front of the engine house. I can certainly feel as though I'm looking at an every day scene during the days of steam. Well done, and congratulations on First Place in Historical Steam Railways!

It's extremely hard work running a steam locomotive, and this worker captures it. Shoveling coal is an almost constant task and it takes strength and perseverance to keep that fire going!
